Joining the Potrero Hill Community Garden

Membership in the the Potrero Hill Community Garden is open to any San Francisco 'household' not currently a member of another community garden, mandated by the SF Recreation & Parks department. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

To apply for a plot, visit the SF Recreation and Parks signup list. Select PHCG from the drop down menu then enter your name, address, email, and phone number. At our garden, it will take several years (at least) to get to the top of the list but other community gardens in San Francisco may have a shorter wait.

Members who join the garden are required to:

  • Sign and follow our member by-laws

  • Sign and follow Recreation & Parks Department waiver annually

  • Pay member dues of $25 per year

  • Actively tend their plot year-round

  • Attend garden meetings - Spring and Fall each year

When a plot becomes available, the garden coordinator will conduct a new member orientation that will include garden access, member agreements, collection of dues (when indicated), and garden practices around composting, invasive plants, water use, and waste removal. Orientation will also include introductions to current garden volunteers who can serve as mentors while you learn to garden in your new space.
