Having your pharmacy technician certification means that you have passed the certification test given by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and you have the basic knowledge to begin working as a pharmacy technician professional. Most states require you to be certified as pharmacists depend more on technicians for support.

Regardless of your state regulations, you'll find that more and more employers are requiring pharmacy technician certification. Most pharmacy technician job postings say that they want candidates who are either already certified or are currently enrolled in pharmacy technician school.

The prerequisites for taking the pharmacy technician certification exam are simple. You must have a high school diploma, GED or foreign equivalent, and you must have no felony or drug-related convictions. Additionally, you must not be under any restrictions from any state Board of Pharmacy.

If you've met the eligibility qualifications, you simply have to pass the pharmacy technician certification test administered by the PTCB. In order to keep your pharmacy technician certification status, you must complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years. At least one of those hours must be in pharmacy law.

A4. No, however, the Board recognizes only certification through a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) nationally certified pharmacy technician program or the ExCPT exam provided by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT). A5. The pharmacist to pharmacy technician ratio may not exceed one pharmacist providing direct supervision of three pharmacy technicians, and one of the three technicians must be certified. Any time during which a pharmacist is directly supervising four technicians, at least two must be certified. See O.C.G.A. 26-4-82(d). However, upon application and approval by the Board, the pharmacist to pharmacy technician may exceed one pharmacist providing direct supervision to four pharmacy technicians in a hospital setting. See O.C.G.A. 26-4-82(d).

A8. When a pharmacy technician registration application is approved, the pharmacy technician will receive an email indicating that his/her registration has been issued. The pharmacy technician can also view his/her registration using the License Verification service on the Board website.

A14. In accordance with Board Rule 480-15-.02, after June 30, 2011, a pharmacy may only employ registered pharmacy technicians to perform pharmacy technician duties. The Board intended with its rule for all technicians working in a pharmacy after June 30, 2011 to be registered with the Board. Instructors working with students in the pharmacy will need to be registered as well. Applications may apply online. If a technician works at more than one pharmacy, they will need to notify the Board of each pharmacy where they will be working using the form provided on the application. Should you change locations after you register, complete the Pharmacy Technician Change of Employment Notification Form . There is no fee for changing work locations with the Board.

The Pharmacy Technician certification course with 80-hour clinical externship is offered as an in-person/online hybrid course in Downtown San Francisco/online or as a self-paced online course. Prepare to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) has created a Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) for those wishing to become certified pharmacy technicians. With this credential, pharmacy technicians show that their knowledge of medication safety and effective patient care across pharmacy settings is up to the standards of any employer.

Option 2: Minimum of 500 work hours as a pharmacy technician. This secondary option provides a path to certification for experienced technicians who cannot attend a PTCB-Recognized program. The PTCB accepts work experience from a wide variety of pharmacy practice settings.

During the exam, you are given a total of two hours to answer each of the 90 questions (ten of which are unscored). Ten minutes are allotted for both a PTCE practice exam tutorial and post-exam survey. The majority of the time, one hour and 50 minutes, is given to respond to the pharmacy tech exam questions. For each PTCB review question, you will be asked to select the best answer from four given possible answer choices.

The PTCB certification exam is a computer-based examination administered nationwide. When you go to register for the PTCB exam, you will be asked to select a convenient location from a list of available Pearson VUE test centers.

During the pharmacy tech certification tutorial, you will have the opportunity to learn the pharm tech exam format and how to navigate the testing screen. It is recommended to take pharmacy technician practice tests to familiarize yourself with this format prior to testing day as well.

The PTCB exam questions are divided into four different knowledge domains that have been designed by pharmacy content experts to test potential candidates on the skills required for the position of pharmacy technician.

Of the 90 multiple-choice certified pharmacist technician questions, only 80 are scored. Ten of the questions are unscored, but these unscored questions are not identified. They are also randomly distributed throughout the PTCB exam to prevent identification of the unscored PTCB questions.

This score has been established by a panel of content experts based on a modified-Angoff method. Through this method, the panel of experts is required to evaluate each individual test item to determine what percentage of already qualified pharmacy technicians would be capable of correctly responding to the question. These estimates were then averaged to come up with the passing score.

Your PTCB exam score report will reveal score information for each of the four knowledge domains. This information should be used to evaluate your strengths and areas for improvement. In the event that you do not receive a passing score, you will have the opportunity to retake the examination. In this case, you should carefully review your exam scores to identify which knowledge domains were more difficult so you can revisit these topic areas in your pharmacy technician study guide. 17dc91bb1f
