A Workshop Hosted by the Blue Moose Gallery, Fort Collins, Colorado
Your phone’s camera may be your only camera these days. Even if it is just your snapshot camera, why not learn to use it to your best advantage? There are lots of obscure features and settings you should know about. This fun, interactive hour and a half will have you making better photographs than ever before with your phone.
Technique is mostly about: keeping the camera still but also how it operates when taking shots.
Exposure is all about the light. Brightness, darkness, black to white...
Sharpness is focus, what is in focus? And what isn’t? Both can be useful.
Scene is what is in the picture, the composition. How much to include/exclude. How to arrange objects in the scene.
TECHNIQUE
Hand holding; elbows down, one hand holds the camera still and one hand does the settings/shutter, feet apart, maybe use a support
In horizontal mode you can use 2 hands giving you control fingers
Slow and Careful on the shutter button!
You can use the volume buttons as the shutter, also on your earphones
Tripod and holder for really still shots or videos
EXPOSURE
Know how the meter works
Black to white, the world averages out to a medium gray, the camera will try to expose the picture that way
Know how to adjust on your camera plus & minus with the button or with a touch and hold spot
SCENE
Composition is all important, rule of thirds, centering, perspective
Zooming in and out is more possible now with newer cameras
Vertical or Horizontal? Maybe both!
Burst Mode on the volume button, hold down, catch the action
