Sound familiar? The new Life after your PhD seminar series aims to provide you with some answers and insights about a career outside academia once you graduate!
On the last Monday of each month from 13:00-14:00 via Zoom inspiring doctoral professionals will discuss their career, why they love their job, hurdles they have overcome and tips for the future.

Celebrating DIVERSITY in Science Virtual Conference
8th – 10th December 2020

Queer & BAME collective, LGBTQ+ Staff network, LGBTQ+ Society and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion group
The aim of this conference is to celebrate the fantastic scientific research from staff and students at University of Exeter in groups that are underrepresented in science, for example women, BAME, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities. We would like to provide a platform for these individuals to discuss their research, meet other researchers and form collaborations.
Academic Volunteers
Academics from CLES and CMH who are passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion in science are invited to present a 40 min presentation + 20 min discussion. Lets talk science!
Oral presentations
Post-doctoral and PhD researchers in CLES and CMH who consider themselves in an under-represented group in science are invited to apply.
PhD presentations - 10min + 5min questions.
Post-doctoral presentations - 20min + 10min questions.
To apply you will need to submit a 200-300 word abstract.

Postgraduate poster presentations
Masters students and PhD researchers in CLES and CMH who consider themselves in an under-represented group in science are invited to submit a research poster with an optional 2/3 min video briefly describing their research. Posters and videos will be displayed for the duration of the conference on our virtual poster gallery. A personal discussion forum will be available on your poster page allowing discussion with attendees.

Undergraduate poster presentations
Undergraduate students in CLES, CMH and CEMPS who consider themselves in an under-represented group in science are invited to submit a poster about the life and research of a scientist who has inspired them. These inspirational scientist posters will be displayed for the duration of the conference on our virtual poster gallery.

There is not just one route after Your PhD, there are several.
This events talks aim at kicking of the new term with two motivational speakers - career coach Dr. Natalie Lancer and entrepreneur Dr. Arlyne Simon - that have left academia and are now pursuing other, exciting careers.
Dr. Lance has a PhD in Psychology and has published several highly successful books that support life scientists through-out their career. Dr. Simon in an entrepreneur who has a PhD in Macromolecular Science and Engineering. She is author is the Abby Invents picture book series, has two patents including a blood test that detects transplant rejection in cancer patients and has co-founded several successful businesses.
The conference was extremely successful, with over 40 poster submissions and over 600 unique visitors to the website. We also had great engagement on our discussion forums with over 250 comments posted.
