Go is a strategy board game with simple rules. Players take turns placing black or white stones on the intersections of the grid. Stones can capture opponent's stones by surrounding them horizontally and vertically. The player with the most territory and captured stones at the end of the game wins. Go is known for its simplicity of rules but deep strategic complexity. Go has communities worldwide. Players can connect with others, join clubs and tournaments and appreciate a 4,000-year intellectual tradition.
We aim to introduce the beautiful game of Go to children across America, inspiring curiosity, focus, and friendship through play. By learning Go, children discover the joy of strategy, balance, and respect — values that last a lifetime.
Go is a strategy game at its core. Players must plan ahead, balance offense and defense, and adapt constantly. This develops: long-term planning, pattern recognition and reading ahead ability (预测力).
A single game can last a long time, requiring steady focus. Over time, players build: deep concentration, patience and calm decision-making, and ability to stay composed under pressure.
Go positions are complex. Players learn to analyze problems from multiple angles, break down big problems into small, solvable ones, and make decisions with incomplete information.
Unlike chess, Go has an open board and many possibilities. This freedom encourages creative, unconventional solutions, flexible thinking, and personal style development.
Go emphasizes harmony and whole-board thinking. Students learn to balance local gain with global strategy, evaluate risk vs. reward, and accept small sacrifices for long-term benefits.
Because Go includes mistakes and reversals, players practice: handling losses, maintaining confidence and learning from failure (复盘 mentality).
Go improves: visual-spatial memory, pattern recall and move sequencing. This is especially beneficial for children’s cognitive development.
A big part of Go is post-game review (复盘)—analyzing mistakes and understanding why something works. This builds metacognition (thinking about thinking) abd independent learning habits.
We offer private online or in-person lessons that are in combinations of teaching games, game reviews, reviewing Go problem homework, and general lectures. In the first lesson, the instructor will ask the student general questions to grasp the student‘s current strengths and weaknesses. Then, a study plan will be designed for the student.
For the best results, students are strongly encouraged to practice between each session. Instructors assign homework weekly, which include a combination of solving Go problems, playing games, doing textbook questions, self-game reviewing, and studying professional games. Scheduling is flexible on a weekly or biweekly frequency. A live recording of each online lesson is available upon request. Please email us (bridgeduan@gmail.com) for any questions.
