Place the tunnel in your backyard or garden somewhere. Alongside fences and walls can be good.
Bait your trap. Common pantry items such as peanut butter or Nutella are quite effective. The cheap stuff has more salt and sugar and is more attractive to rats. Try mixing with rolled oats to make it more manageable.
Set the trap. (See the links to our "How to Set Your Trap" videos on this site). Carefully slide it into the tunnel till it’s well inside -there should be a nail sticking up through the floor to prevent it going too far. Replace the sliding mesh on the tunnel.
Check the trap often - we’d recommend at least once a week. Dead rats can get a bit stinky after a few days. Keep the bait fresh as it’ll increase your chances of catching something.
Keep us posted! Whenever you catch something, fill out the Catch Report Form (on the Resources page of this website) to tell us what you caught, where and when. Photos of the dead thing on the trap box, with the trap number visible are handy, and welcome, and can be emailed to predatorfreemiramar@gmail.com !
Get rid of the dead rats and mice. Pick up the trap and opening it should let the dead animal fall out. Best disposal method is to bag it, and throw it out with your household rubbish.
Re-set your trap - and repeat!
