PEX PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT EXCHANGE 2026
The PEX26 programme will bring together 22 researchers and Public Engagement Professionals from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Germany for a year-long leadership journey combining online training, peer-learning, and an in-person conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa in November 2026.
Fellows will gain skills in embedding and advocating for public engagement while building a strong international network of peers. The programme runs from December 2025 to December 2026 with a commitment of 3–6 hours per month and includes:
training and peer-learning through an online Leadership Academy (see programme description),
a co-curated in-person conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa in November 2026 (travel and accommodation covered),
opportunities to lead on supported online sessions for your peers,
contribution to a Design Thinking Challenge on PE conducted by students of the d-school at Hasso-Plattner-Institute (HPI).

PEX is an initiative funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) and based in the Public Engagement and Impact Unit of the Natural History Museum Berlin in collaboration with the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST) at Stellenbosch University and Hasso Plattner Institute – School of Design Thinking.
