Multimedia Instructional Materials
Purpose
Students will be returning to school this week and we are having to adapt what physical education class typically looks like due to the pandemic. I need to be prepared for online learning, in person instruction, or a combination of both. I want to be sure that students maintain social distancing and do not share equipment while teaching in person. To ensure that this happens, my students will be participating in more individual sports. Tennis will be a sport that will allow us to follow guidelines in the classroom or at home. The main purpose of this multimedia presentation is to ensure that my classroom can learn the tennis cues and what the skills look like at school or at home. Students can also maintain social distancing while watching this video in the gym. This will be a great resource for my students to refer to if they need additional help. Students will begin the first week of the school year with the tennis unit. Ultimately, I want to ensure students know about tennis safety and have a good understanding of what they are expected to learn.
Audience
This multimedia presentation is intended for my 7th, 8th, and 9th grade physical education students. My classes are filled with about 50 female students of the same grade level. My students are located in Utah at a school named Pleasant Grove Jr. High. The multimedia presentation is to teach each student the rules of tennis, tennis safety, and tennis skills and cues. Pictures of myself are on each skill slide to help students understand how to perform a skill while listening to the demonstration. These visual examples with words are also a great way for my students to learn tennis in Physical Education. This multimedia presentation can also be used by other physical education teachers who teach similar skills and cues in tennis.
Software
The software I selected was a PowerPoint presentation. This is an application I have access to on both my work and personal computer to create easy access for viewing at home and in my classroom. This software can add visuals, videos, text, and audio all while remaining visually appealing. This software provides design ideas which organize the PowerPoint to make it easier to read and view. Overall, PowerPoint is my favorite software to use because I have access to it, my students have access to it, and I can easily upload these presentations to YouTube to share with others.
Process
The process for creating a PowerPoint is simple and user friendly. You will first want to open the PowerPoint software on your computer which will require that you have Microsoft 365 software on your computer. You can begin by choosing a blank presentation which will later allow you to customize your PowerPoint to how you want it. Choose a design that will fit the theme of your PowerPoint and use the design ideas in the tools throughout the process to make a visually appealing presentation. Use the tools at the top of the application to add more slides.
You can then add text boxes, images, videos, charts, etc. to record necessary information. You can also add transitions with the tool function to make the PowerPoint flow. Finally, you can add audio to your PowerPoint by going to the tools and clicking “Insert” and then “Audio” and “Record Audio.” This will allow you to record audio for each slide.
To make viewing easy for my colleagues and students, I imported this PowerPoint presentation to YouTube. While in the PowerPoint presentation, click on File, and then Export and then Create A Video. You can then choose the type of quality you would like the presentation to be and if you want transitions and audio included. You will then save this video to your computer. After that, you will create a YouTube account or log into your Google account. At the top of your account, you will click on “Create a Video or Post” and then “Upload Video”. You will then select the saved PowerPoint presentation video to upload. Once it is uploaded, you will create a title, description, and a video thumbnail. Before uploading your video, you will want to adjust the viewing preferences to ensure your intended audience can view it. Lastly, you can share the link to your video for others to enjoy.
