GUIDELINES FOR TEACHING KEY SKILLS

Make a list of things you thought your dog would ask for. Then look at the list critically: are there things that resemble each other? If so, you will save your time by combining the requests.

If even if you want to command your dog down from the couch, you don’t necessarily have to teach it the down couch command, but a come command may suffice. Strolling

If you want your dogs to be socially fit, you’ll probably find fine walking on your leash on your list. Many people make the mistake of thinking strap walking is a natural activity for a dog, because often the puppy enjoys being close to his own person in the middle of the outside world. The dog does not automatically understand that when the leash is attached to a collar or harness, it should be whipped next to the person with the leash loose. Handling

It must be possible to treat each dog at least to the extent that veterinary checks are cleared. There is no reason to let a dog startle a strange situation. Teach your dog that touching a human is a nice thing. In the beginning, even in small treatments, try to make your touch taste like sausage (or other favorite treat of your dog) in your dog’s mouth. This only happens if you give your dog a sausage at exactly the same time you touch it. Also teach your puppy that it is worth relaxing in a person’s lap.

Calm down

Tolerating boredom is a useful skill for just about any dog. It doesn’t always have to happen and you don’t have to react to everything. The puppy should be introduced to as many of the things he will encounter later in life as possible. Asking for permission, that is, sitting and looking at a person, before appearing in front of a food stall, before the doors open, before greeting guests, or before throwing up to a companion, teaches the dog temperance. Contact training is the basis for this as well. The dog can also be taught his own place, where he is allowed to rest and where it is always worthwhile to go on request. When the dog is in its place, it is not disturbed.

Greeting

The dog is not forced to greet strangers indoors or outdoors. You can decide for yourself who your dog greets and who doesn't. If your dog gets to greet people, including yourself, teach him how you hope the greeting will happen. If you don’t want your dog to jump against yourself, be careful with the moment you give your dog your attention. That is what it wants. When the dog jumps, look at the ceiling and turn it on even if his back. When four paws are on the ground, notice the dog. This is how the dog gradually learns that bouncing is not worth it. Paws should be kept firmly on the ground.

Of course, one greeting option is to hit the front paws firmly into the human body and drool the face. This is what a dog knows naturally. If you end up reinforcing this way of greeting, i.e., paying attention to the dog in any way as it does so, then remember in all situations later that you chose the way.

No

It is good for a dog to be able to stop tinkering with certain things. It’s just because it’s not appropriate or even safe to do everything in life: don’t eat cigarette butts, don’t jump on the dinner table, don’t run after a postman. This thing, too, needs to be taught to the dog, as it does not naturally know which things a person thinks are the ones that are not desirable to do. Equip your training moment so that you have to offer your dog something at least as good as a reward like the thing you are asking your dog to give up. If you know it won’t come out of your mouth a little unnecessarily easily or tightly, you may want to choose another word that teaches your dog the meaning thoroughly. The most important thing is consistency. The fact that the mother says to the dog, “No!”, The father, “Stop already!” and children: “Can’t stand…,” isn’t very effective.

Justice

When your dog isn’t doing what you want (situations like this are sure to happen), stop for a moment and think about whether you’ve remembered to teach the dog. Would you be able to meet the beginnings of a thunderstorm on a ukulele, for example, at your own request, by order or even at gunpoint? The skill must first be taught before it can be required. It’s also worth remembering that even if the playing goes smoothly in your own living room, it may not go smoothly in front of an audience. A similar phenomenon can be seen when a dog in no way agrees to sit in the middle of an urban hustle and bustle, no matter how always and how nicely it sits on the kitchen floor. The environment has a strange effect on our abilities. If the dog doesn’t do something on the command that hasn’t been taught to him, it’s better to just scream in front of a mirror. Another option is to start training your dog.
