Food for Thought

It’s November and soon thoughts of Christmas will be in the air. The stores are already outfitted in their Christmas finery. Some people I know have already completed their Christmas shopping. Others, myself included, wonder just what they can give family members that will be appreciated. Since our mission began, I have had the opportunity to talk to several people who frequent the Logan Home Storage Center around the end of November and into December. Many of them are buying food storage items to give to family and friends for Christmas. One lady told me she has five adult children, some married, some in college. She buys a case of one item. Last year she bought a case of rice, one can for each of her children and one can for her home storage. She said the college students usually use up whatever can they receive that year. There was a man who came in to buy a case of hot chocolate as a neighbor’s gift. He said his gift has become a Christmas tradition as his neighbors look forward to their ‘Mormon hot chocolate’ each year. I like the pancake mix and have given that as a gift along with a spatula and some maple syrup. These are just a few Christmas gift ideas you can get from the Logan Home Storage Center. Whether you decide to give just one item, an item with accessories, or a whole case as a gift, it is sure to please someone on your Christmas gift list.

Do I need to Wear a Mask when coming to the Logan Home Storage Center?

The wearing of masks is now optional and is at the preference of the patron.

Large Orders

As we continue to work with the Wards and Stakes, we have been asked about placing large orders with the LHSC.  When considering placing a large order we recommend the following steps:

1.     Each Ward or Stake will need to have a single point of contact, referred to as the Patron for the order.

2.     The Patron will be responsible for collecting all of the orders from the members in their ward or stake and placing them on a single order form.

3.     The Patron will contact the LHSC, at 435-227-0405, and working from their completed form, they will place the order with the LHSC missionaries.

Note: After receiving the order from the point of contact, the LHSC missionary will verify the order against the inventory to determine availability.  If adjustments need to be made the missionary will contact the Patron and review those changes.

4.     The LHSC missionary will work with the Patron to determine a time to have the order picked up.

5.     When this time is determined the LHSC missionary will fill the order and have it waiting for the Patron on the scheduled pick-up date.

6.     When the Patron picks up the order the LHSC missionary will review with them the order to ensure what was ordered is what’s being picked up.

7.     After reviewing the order with the Patron.  The Patron will pay for the complete order using a single credit or debit card.  Please note currently, the LHSC does not accept American Express.

8.     The LHSC missionary will help load your order into your vehicle.

Presentations

As the Community Relations Service Missionaries for the Logan Home Storage Center, we come to your ward or stake to share our presentation about the importance of having a “Home Storage Program” as taught to us by the Prophets.  In this presentation, we discuss the effect the pandemic had on members of the church and we discuss what the Prophets have taught us about the importance of having a Home Storage Program.  The basis of our presentation comes from the church’s publication, “All Is Safely Gathered In: Family Home Storage,” published in 2007.  In our presentation, we discuss the importance of establishing a Three-Month Supply, building it into a Long-Term Supply, and how the Logan Home Storage Center can assist you.  We also discuss the importance of water storage and having a financial reserve.  As we conclude we discuss recent observations as published by national or international organizations.  Then we open it up for questions.

We look forward to sharing our presentation with your ward or stake.  Our hope is that this presentation will generate a desire in the members of your wards and stakes to improve their home storage program.  Our contact information is at the end of the newsletter.  Please call or email us, if you would like to schedule a time when we can come and give our presentation to your ward or stake.
