About the work.
The themes of Peter Jordan’s work are varied: images seen, drawn or photographed on travels in Italy (Bologna, Milan, Umbria) or Calcutta (Kolkata) or around Oxford and London. At other times images are based on found images that have often rested in sketchbooks for many years before being developed. The very fact that images have stayed in sketchbooks for so long and yet remain still powerful has proved a useful selection criteria.
Images are often layered, using a second or third plate or screen and also monoprinting or hand colouring, to generate chance overlaps and more complex textures and structures.
Suites of prints have been developed. Sometimes they are quite deliberately sequenced, such as the Bologna or Lewes series, while at other times the suite theme is looser such as those based upon Kensal Green Cemetery.
The smaller prints tend to have a lighter touch and more obvious sense of humour.
The work shown here has been mostly made since 2017. Images are printed, in one way or another, mostly relief lino or silkscreen prints with hand colouring in small editions of between 4 and 15. Small Prints and Still Life are printed in much larger editions, sometimes over 200 and are roughly postcard size. Most recent prints have marked a return to screen printing.
Most of the work is for sale and framing can be arranged.
