Biography

I'm an Earth system scientist and interdisciplinary scholar working at Harvard's Solar Geoengineering Research Program (and soon to be working at UCL's Earth Sciences department). My work focuses on solar geoengineering, which is the idea that we can cool the planet by increasing the amount of sunlight reflected back to space. I want to know what the consequences of solar geoengineering proposals could be and whether it could be a complement to emissions cuts and adaptation. I want to find answers to the following questions:

• How would solar geoengineering affect the components of the Earth system that we depend upon, such as the hydrological cycle, vegetation and the ice-sheets?
• What do we need to know to evaluate the benefits and risks of solar geoengineering proposals?
• What are the ethical, legal and governance implications of the science of solar geoengineering?
