I was born in 1956 and grew up in Johannesburg where I was initially educated at St. John’s College, the Johannesburg Art Foundation (under Bill Ainslie) and from 1976 – 1980, at the University of Cape Town.
I devoted my professional career to art teaching at secondary school level, including teaching at Bishops (Diocesan College) for 36 years. My work and experience as an art teacher has been closely connected with my practice as a visual artist.
I retired from Bishops in 2020 and am currently working as a private art tutor teaching children, teenagers and adults and preparing for an exhibition of paintings and drawings scheduled for July, 2025. I have also presented a series of lectures for the University of the Third Age (U3A) titled ‘Anatomy of a Masterpiece’. Inspired by the work of Joseph Beuys (1921 - 1986 ), I am also engaged in a range of 'social sculpture' projects within my local community.

As one of my recent (July 2023) 'social sculpture' projects, I organised a community exhibition in the Parish Hall at St Thomas Church Rondebosch, Cape Town , intended as an opportunity for members of the broader community to exhibit their creative work, both fine arts and crafts, and in celebration of the St Thomas parish hall’s centenary. This photo is of the exhibition opening on 28th July, 2023.
