Peter Njekwa Ryberg

PhD Candidate in Economics at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) in Sweden and researcher at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Spatial Economics (CEnSE). 

I am an applied microeconomist with a research interest in labor market outcomes of automation, industrial policy, and technological change. In my dissertation "Robots in Space", I examine local drivers and outcomes of automation. My findings show how local economic features influence the diffusion of automation and steer automation-induced outcomes.

My research lies in the intersection of regional and urban economics and labor economics, as I embed firms and workers in local labor markets to examine the uneven impacts of automation across space.

I am currently authoring policy reports, translating my findings into policy recommendations; I argue that industrial policy aimed at spreading knowledge related to the usage of automation and increasing the supply of automation engineers in rural areas can yield significant gains in both quantity and quality of jobs and value added. 

I will be on the academic job market 2026-2027.
