Autonomous learning systems learn from experience and adapt their behavior to accomplish complex tasks in uncertain and dynamic environments. By integrating machine learning with decision-making, control, and robotics, these systems can improve their performance over time without requiring complete system models. Unlike purely data-driven approaches, autonomous learning systems seek to balance adaptability with formal guarantees of safety, correctness, and task accomplishment. This research area seeks to develop principled frameworks that integrate learning and supervisory control to enable autonomous systems that are adaptive, reliable, explainable, and safe.
