Animal shelter volunteers give their love and care to animals that have been abandoned or abused by their owners and are looking for a new home. This is also a great opportunity for volunteers under 18 who are passionate about animals and want to spend time to volunteer at an animal shelter.

Volunteers work at animal shelters will have many different duties, like cleaning shelters, feeding animals, dog walking, and assisting in the rehabilitation of traumatized animals. You might also engage in efforts to control the overpopulation of stray animals during your time at a cat and dog rescue center. Anyone can volunteer abroad in order to support animal shelters volunteer programs.

Doggy Dog World Rescue was founded by Shelley Osgood, owner and operator of Doggy Dog World Grooming in Littleton, Colo. Shelley created the rescue group in 2008 to rescue animals from high kill shelters and find suitable families to provide forever homes for these animals that would otherwise be euthanized.

Doggy Dog World currently employs a foster based system. Our foster homes provide food, shelter and love for our rescue animals in an attempt to rehabilitate them until they are adopted into their forever homes. We are in the process of fundraising for a brick and mortar facility to enable us to help even more animals.

Global Strays provides opportunities for funders, organizations, individuals, and companies to join our movement aimed at helping animals and the people that love them. You can become an ambassador; you can fundraise for us; you can volunteer.

Main Line Animal Rescue receives no federal, state or local funding and relies exclusively on the generosity of people like you. By donating, volunteering or adopting, you can take action that helps turn an animal in need into a loving family member. As you explore our site, please consider the many ways you can open your heart to the pets we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome.

We take dogs from a 100 mile radius around us, many of which come from kill shelters. We get them well, treat them for heartworms and whatever else ails them, get them spayed, neutered vaccinated and socialized.

Our dogs are adopted out through volunteer adoption coordinators in the East Coast and Canada where we send 50 to 80 at a time. We place an average of 200-300 unwanted South Texas pets each month into wonderful homes in the East Coast, Canada, as well as a few in the Woodlands. Their applications are very strict, long, and verified, so that all the animals are placed in wonderful, loving, forever homes.

City officials have been working for several years on a plan to expand and renovate the existing shelter at 3031 N. Erie Ave. But a number of factors, including rising construction costs and the desire to have a facility that would be more easily accessible for people interested in adopting an animal, led the city to consider new locations.

Zoey's a big girl with a big personality to match! She has experience with children and has done well with other dogs. She used a doggy door in her last home and never had accidents. She's quite the chunk, so this girl obviously loves to snack and should be easy to train with such food motivation! She would benefit from a family willing to take her on walks to help her lose some weight and just enjoy exploring the world with her hound dog nose.

Sophee is a sweet girl with a wonderful personality! As a puppy, she thinks everyone should love her as much as she loves meeting them. Her estimated birthdate is Feb. 4, 22 and we think she will be a medium to large size pup when full grown (but that's a guesstimate)! Sophee is a world class snuggler too! Our phone app told us that she is a mix of Jack Russell Terrier, Parson Russell Terrier and American Pitbull Terrier which are all intelligent breeds (all guesstimates too). But whatever her heritage is, what we know is that she is an amazing pup and we think would make a wonderful new family member!

To help promote small animal adoptions, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington and the Fairfax County Animal Shelter are hosting adoption events this Sunday, June 26. Adoption fees at both shelters will be waived for all small animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, rats, hamsters, small birds, ferrets, and other small animals. Normal adoption process and requirements apply.

PET WORLD'S ANIMAL RESCUE WORK

Everyone knows Pet World in Lawrence, Kansas is a huge, full line pet store but did you know we are also a licensed animal shelter? For decades we have been rescuing and rehoming animals and operating our shelter openly, right inside our pet shop. Our shelter is a little different than most because it is privately owned and operated. We don't have a board of directors or fund raising campaigns and you won't find our surrendered animals off in sterile, concrete pens. Our rescue animals are intergrated into the general population, available right alongside the responsibly sourced, fancy purebreds and given the same care and same opportunities for forever homes. Our shelter expenses are covered by profits from merchandise sales (and, more recently, donations from the public).

Many people don't know that the city of Lawrence, Kansas does not have its own city animal shelter. Fortunately for Lawrence, however, the Lawrence Humane Society offers its rehoming services for dogs and cats and Pet World Animal Shelter offers our rehoming services for everything else! We both offer these services as part of our community commitment, at no cost to our great city. Feel good about buying at Pet World, knowing that part of every dollar you spend helps support the successful rescue and rehoming of pets who just need a second chance.

You can donate to our shelter directly via PayPal using the email:

FIRE RECOVERY

As most of you know, Pet World suffered a tragic fire on Memorial Day, 2015, that destroyed our facility and rocked our community. For the first week we were totally overwhelmed with public support and requests to donate. Because we had insurance and we are not a non-profit we resisted accepting donations for relief efforts. We had never been through anything like this before and, quite frankly, had no idea how to handle public funds back then. We never used to accept donations for our shelter plus we were saddened and discouraged by the phony Go Fund Me and other donation sites being set up in our name by people who were not official PW representatives. At first we simply asked folks to refrain from making donations but our supporters would not back down, insisting they not only wanted to help, they needed to help. So we finally went to our own, local bank and they helped us set up an official account.

but that account has since been changed to our Animal Rescue account. Only donations to our animal shelter are accepted at this time. You can donate directly, in person, at our Lawrence location or via PayPal online. (Details above.)

Please note Pet World has not and will not authorize any GoFundMe or similar accounts. All financial donations for fire releif were handled solely by Central Bank and that's where our animal rescue money is handled, as well. We hope no one was or ever is fooled by unofficial fundraising accounts.

Give the Gift of Comfort to a shelter dog or cat. Your kindness will make a world of difference to them! Prices on Kurada dog beds are specially discounted for donations. Items ship directly to the shelter in your name. Donate a dog bed today.

There are many non-profit organizations and animal shelters all around the world that do an outstanding job saving and caring for animals. They also encourage people to provide these pets with a forever home.

Dog rescues and animal shelters have a lot of responsibilities and tons of work to do: they provide accommodation, food and water, veterinary and sterilization care for homeless animals. They train, re-train and rehabilitate unwanted and problematic dogs and cats. They also organize visits from future pet-owners-to-be for the pets they keep in the shelter. With all of that, many of them do not get the recognition they deserve.

This year, our Top Dog Tips Awards Program editorial team spent many hours researching the scene of international organizations to pick out 45 best dog rescues in the world. We wanted to acknowledge them for their work, dedication, accomplishments and the difference that they make around the globe.

Based in Thailand, Soi Dog Foundation provides services to the homeless, abused, and neglected dogs of Thailand. One of their main focuses is to spay and neuter the homeless dogs and cats of Thailand in order to reduce the number of homeless animals in the future. Soi Dog Foundation also plays a major role in rescuing dogs from the unfathomable meat trade and provides veterinary attention to animals in need.

Based out of the U.K. K-9 Angels works to help dogs in various situations, but they are perhaps best known for their work to help the more than 5,000 street dogs of Romania. Not only do these street dogs struggle to survive in terrible conditions, but they are often subjected to torture by locals. K-9 Angels help to rehome some of the many dogs they help, and provide spaying and neutering services, for the veterinary needs of the dogs, food for strays, and do what they can to improve the living conditions in local shelters to accommodate more dogs.

A non-profit rescue based in Bali, Bali Animal Welfare Association is dedicated to creating a better life for animals living on the streets of Bali. Among the services they provide are 24-7 emergency services, street feeding, vaccination, sterilization and rehabilitation programs, a community education program, and foster and adoption services.

Based in Peru, The Perros Project is devoted to relieving the suffering of dogs in Peru in any way possible. This includes holding spay and neuter clinics designed to reduce future suffering by reducing the homeless animal population, holding community education programs, and improving the conditions of local animal shelters to better provide for local homeless dogs. e24fc04721
