Over three decades ago, fresh from my graduation at Syracuse University, I embarked on a new chapter in the bustling city of Boston to start my corporate career. That's when I embraced my lifelong ambition to own a black lab puppy.

Raising a puppy on my own while juggling a full-time job in a major city was more challenging than I anticipated! Bella, my aptly named companion, was the catalyst behind the creation of Wagging Tails. It was with her by my side that I took the bold step to launch this endeavor.

In 1993, I took a significant leap, leaving my corporate life behind to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams. Amid a wave of anxiety, I looked at Bella and declared, "There's no going back now. We’re in this together. What should we name our new adventure?" At that moment, Bella gazed up at me, her tail thumping joyfully. That was the moment Wagging Tails was born.

Since then, Wagging Tails has evolved from one of Connecticut’s pioneering professional pet sitting services to include a fleet of mobile grooming vans and the establishment of three vibrant, immaculate pet resorts. This expansion is rooted in a fundamental belief: Pets are not just important, they are central to the family. The entire Wagging Tails team shares this view and commits wholeheartedly to treating each pet with the same love and care as if they were their own.

Wagging Tails is not part of a franchise. Every aspect of our business—from the services we provide to the policies we enforce—has been personally developed by me and is operated by myself, my family, and our passionate team of trained, experienced "Wagologists." When I began Wagging Tails, I was a single pet parent in my twenties. Over the years, through numerous challenges and joys, and having fallen in love with thousands of animals, Wagging Tails has flourished into an award-winning retreat for Connecticut’s pets.

Over the years, it's been my joy to welcome my husband—an enthusiastic German Shepherd lover and a dedicated Firefighter/EMT—to the Wagging Tails family. His non-traditional work hours made me realize that our pet care services needed to be flexible. As a result, Wagging Tails operates seven days a week to accommodate pet parents with varied schedules, and yes, we’re open every day of the year because pets need care daily!

Our two teenage daughters are integral to our family business. From a young age, they learned that caring for pets involves much more than playing with them. They understand the serious responsibility of ensuring the safety and well-being of the pets in our care. Our daughter Natalie, a Youth Handler in Dock Diving with her black lab, Lily, also attends a Vocational Agriculture High School in Connecticut. She's expanding her knowledge in animal care while embodying the values that Wagging Tails was built on.

The landscape of pet care has transformed significantly over the past 30 years. Pets, once kept in backyards, now snuggle with us in our beds—as they should! Recognizing this shift, we at Wagging Tails have designed spaces and activities that we’d want for our pets in our absence. We’re proud to offer these services to your pets too. Since many public parks do not allow dogs, we opened Connecticut’s first and only indoor/outdoor dog park in 1999.

In the spirit of inclusive family activities, we added a 45-foot saltwater pool and dock at our Wolcott location in Spring 2018, welcoming families to enjoy dock diving with their dogs. This initiative caters to the passion many dogs across New England have for water. Further embracing this love for aquatic fun, we opened Connecticut’s first indoor dock diving pool and facility in the Fall of 2023. This allows dogs to enjoy swimming year-round through our Swim Lessons, Dock Diving Try-It Sessions, Pool Rentals, and daily pool passes. What’s a resort without a pool, after all? Here, dogs can splash to their heart's content every day, ensuring they're happy and active, even when you're away!
