Pottery is a way for me to express my want to make complex artwork that appears simple to the average person. I enjoy making simple forms with fun colors and trying new things.
"Melusine"
My work this year has been created as a way to improve myself in my throwing. All of my thrown pieces have been experiments to test my throwing abilities, whether it is experimenting with the form of experimenting with how thin I can get the piece.
"Melusine" was created as a way to push myself on the wheel and to try throwing new forms. It received the Governors Award of Excellence and is Top 25 in the 2019 Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition
I love pieces like this where you have a simple form with just one black brush stroke as the only form of glaze so this was my attempt at it.
This piece came about when I accidentally trimmed the bottom out of it. I decided instead of trashing it to go with what I had and to create something that fit my mistake.
I have discovered my love for the glaze "Stormy Blue" this year and it is my go to glaze when I do not know what else to use. Both of these pieces were done with it while the piece on the left has a lighter blue dripped onto the top over it.
My heart was created as a visual representation of being in an emotionally abusive relationship. The heart is wrapped in chains and surrounded by broken glass, being put on display to show how the victims in an abusive relationship are trapped and have to show their vulnerable side while putting on a show as to not upset their partner.
