Research/ Academic Projects/ Capacity Building Project
Research Project (CO-PI): Study of NAVIC and Opti-Flow based drone systems in GPS Denied Environment” (In Progress)
Objectives:
Ø Study of drone communication link in GPS/NAVIC-Denied Environment (L/S Band Jamming Scenario): The existing drone navigation systems heavily rely on GPS technology, presenting a significant challenge when operating in environments with limited or no GPS signal availability. In GPS-denied scenarios, such as urban canyons or areas with signal interference, the current navigation solutions exhibit diminished accuracy, jeopardizing the effectiveness of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in critical applications. Addressing the need for an alternative navigation system becomes imperative to ensure reliable drone operations in diverse and challenging environments.
Ø Performance of drone navigation in GPS+NAVIC Denied Environment (L+S Band Jamming Scenario) using Optical Flow System: In GPS+NAVIC denied environments, drone navigation relies on Optical Flow Systems for precise positioning. By analyzing ground features through onboard cameras, these systems enable accurate velocity estimation and position hold, ensuring stable and reliable flight even when traditional satellite-based navigation signals are unavailable, enhancing overall performance in challenging conditions.
The project has been sanctioned approval from C3I IHUB NTIHAC foundation, IIT Kanpur for a budget of INR 19.83 Lakh.
