So much of our future lies in preserving our past
- Peter Westbrook
The world around us is advancing at mind-boggling speeds. No sooner have we developed cutting edge technology or equipment, they are rendered obsolete by the next generation of improvements. The message that is being delivered is that we either change with the times, or be left behind. So then, why should we concern ourselves with the past and the concept of historic preservation?
Because historical events have made us who we are and will influence who we are to become. These are things that are worthy of preservation. Historic preservation is generally regarded as the practice of protecting or preserving sites, buildings, structures, objects or districts which reflect elements of cultural, social, economic, political, archaeological or architectural history. This history is important because it connects us to specific times, places and events that were significant milestones in our collective past. There are many ways people have preserved history and digitalisation is the newest form for preserving history. There are many more. Interested in finding out?
Given the chance, which part of the history would you like to preserve?
This project is about:
Exploring our history / past and identifying things worthy of preserving
Investigating about ways of how history is preserved and design a way of preserving our history.
Find your inspiration. You can do that by asking yourself these questions:
Look around, explore. Which part of the history do you think is worth preserving? (It can be a monument / artifacts / diary / photographs / paintings, etc.)
Why do I think it is worth preserving?
Is there any threat to the history?
How will it benefit if you are able to preserve it ?
How can I contribute/make an impact for betterment?
Think of a design that can help in the preservation
