Mapping Needs to Requirements
The code for the product shall be able to run efficiently and shall consider various situations.
Requirement 1: The product shall work in all common cases.
Need 1: The user shall have higher spatial awareness.
The product shall map surroundings accurately using light sensors and uses motors to alert users via vibration.
Requirement 2: The product shall be able to alert users effectively.
Needs 2a and 2b: The user shall navigate their surroundings more easily. The user shall be able to avoid hazards more easily.
The product shall include features such as an on/off switch.
Requirement 3: The product shall have convenient features.
Need 3: The user shall have control over the device.
Data shall be stored for improvement purposes and then deleted.
Requirement 4: The product shall not track and collect user data.
Need 4: The product shall provide digital protection against unwanted data surveillance.
The product shall be made from affordable parts.
Requirement 5: The product shall be easy to mass produce.
Need 5: The product shall be priced in an accessible way.
The product shall have its main functionality be run client-side.
Requirement 6: The product shall be operational even if not connected to Wi-Fi.
Need 6: The product shall be able to provide service to the user independent of where the user is located.
The product shall be fast.
Requirement 7: The product shall have a high refresh rate, preferably 30 Hz or above.
Need 7: The product shall provide up-to-date information about the world around the user.
The product shall not be intrusive.
Requirement 8: The product shall be set up to ignore the user's arms and cane while still detecting other objects that are farther away.
Need 8: The product shall avoid activating from detection of obstructions the user is already aware of, like their own body or their cane.
The product shall be able to provide a significant amount of spatial information.
Requirement 9: The sensor array shall have a high total FOV.
Need 9: The product shall be able to see a significant portion of the world around the user.
The product shall have low power consumption.
Requirement 10: All electronic components shall not have a high energy requirement.
Need 10: The user shall be able to use the product for extended periods of time without needing to recharge the device constantly.
The product shall be lightweight.
Requirement 11: The product shall be made of a minimal number of components. and/or components with less weight.
Need 11: The product shall be light enough so that it is not a burden for customers.
