These questions work with any company, large or small. A good installer will answer each one plainly and will not mind being asked.
Will you come out and measure, or quote from photos? Either can work, but you should know whether the quote is based on real measurements of every eave and peak.
Which parts of my roofline are included? Ask for a sketch or marked photo. Front only, front and sides, and full perimeter are very different jobs.
What is the light spacing, and why that spacing for my house? Closer spacing gives a smoother line; wider spacing gives a more classic bulb look. Either is fine if it is a choice and not an accident.
What color is the channel, and can it match my trim? A matched channel is what makes the install disappear by day.
Where will the power supply and controller go? You want them out of standing water and, ideally, out of direct afternoon sun.
Does the system do a true warm white, or only a white mixed from colors? Systems with a dedicated white LED usually give a cleaner everyday white. Ask to see it in person at night if you can.
How is it controlled, and what happens if the app changes or the internet goes down? Ask whether schedules run on the controller itself, and whether there is a manual on and off.
How are the lights mounted, and does anything go through the roof? Mounting to the fascia or gutter face is standard. Ask what fasteners are used and how they are sealed.
How do corners, peaks and gaps between roof sections get handled? This is where a careful installer and a rushed one look most different.
What coverage comes with the product and with the labor, and who handles a claim? Ask for both in writing, and ask who you call first if one section goes dark.
If one light fails, can you replace a single light or a single section? Repair cost and effort depend a lot on the answer.
Will you walk me through the app and set up my first few presets before you leave? The best install in the world is frustrating if nobody shows you how to use it.
Bring the same list to every company you talk to, and compare the answers side by side rather than only the totals. For one example of how an installer lays out its pricing approach, look at the pricing page on Permanent Lighting Solutions' own site and compare it to the others you collect.
