We hosted a can drive back in June 2020 and were able to raise over $1,000. This drive was conducted while obeying all pandemic restrictions, using masks and gloves and limiting any contact with those donating (cans donated were left outside for us so we did not come in contact). These cans were slowly returned in many, many trips to the store because of restrictions regarding can returning in Michigan.
With the funds raised from the June can drive, we were able to use half of our funds to make a donation to FISH of Grand Blanc. Due to the pandemic, they were experiencing unprecedented need for donations and were majorly in need for menstrual product donations. We will be donating to them in the future because their lack of donations for feminine hygiene products.
Students at Kettering University in Flint, Mi did another fundraiser/ product collection for us and we packaged all of those products up to make 100 period bags. Thank you again to Kettering students and their dedication to our cause!!!
We donated the period bags created with products from the Kettering drive to a new nonprofit in Flint called "Building Strong Women". We also donated some of the bags to the YWCA. We look forward to donating more to BSW because they are a smaller organization that depends on donations like ours.
We visited the high school for the first time since graduating in May to see our boxes still in all of the womens bathrooms. The school board officially approved to continue the free menstrual products in the bathrooms, so that means that the products are here to stay. One thing that excited us was to see that our signs were still up (and laminated!!) and that the school is still using quality product.
We set up a table at the Flint Farmers market to educate and inform our community about the period poverty crisis happening in America, especially in our community. We also sold our merch, pins, and took donations to fund our next period bag donation project.
All of the donations were used from the Flint farmers market combined with our merchandise sales to purchase products that we put into period bags. These bags were donated to The Flint Development Center and will go for the young girls who attend the center and cannot afford needed products.
We attended the first ever National Period Day Movement held at University of Michigan's Diag. We heard many speakers talk about the tampon tax and what is needed to take down that tax in Michigan.
Students from Kettering University in Flint, MI approached us about partnering for a fundraiser.
The students collected around $700 and were able to purchase products with that money. They filled our whole trunk!
With the products we were given from the students, we were able to create 260 "period bags" that will provide women with enough products for one cycle.
After our pilot of the free menstural products in Grand Blanc High School, we presented our results to the Board of Education to judge if they can find room in the budget to continue the free products.
We mentored two eighth graders from East Middle School in Grand Blanc for their Girl Scout project. We led them on their journey for trying to pilot free mentural products in their school, and helped them present at the Board of Education meeting.
With the products bought in our post below this update, we held a packaging party at our school, Grand Blanc High School. We involved anyone from school wanting to help and packaged little "period bags" that will give enough product to get a woman through one cycle. These bags were donated to Carriage Town Ministries, a shelter in Flint.
With the $747 we raised from our can drive, we were able to purchase 6,042 total menstrual products that will be used for our packaging party
442 Pantyliners
2,324 Pads
