About Me

I am an Ambassador in Girl Scouts. I have achieved bronze award status and am now pursuing Gold award status. I hope you have found this website helpful personally and further our collective efforts in bettering our planet.

What is this website a part of?

This website is part of my Girl Scout Gold award project. This project includes making all of the materials from this website as well as teaching a group of women to sew reusable menstrual pads.

What is my project?

My gold award project is titled 'Battling Period Poverty Sustainably'. For this project, I will be using reusable menstrual pads to help women in low income communities battle period poverty. As well as helping women learn how they can benefit the planet with using reusable menstrual pads. I have taught a group of women from my church, The Ties That Bind, how to sew reusable menstrual pads. With them, we have sewn over 150 pads to donate. This has created 20 kits to donate to people in need and people interested in a zero- waste period. In each pad donation bag, there are 8 pads of varying sizes, care instructions, and instructions of how to make more pads in the future. The Ties That Bind will continue to sew more pads to donate to more communities in the future.

WHat is a Girl SCout gold award project?

A Girl Scout Gold Award Project is the highest award a Girl Scout can achieve and only 5% of eligible girl scouts actually achieve this award. A Girl scout must become motivated and inspired to devise a project plan that must consist of certain key factors. These factors must include 80 hours worth of work dedicated towards this project, it must be sustainable; meaning that it's impact will continue to make a change in the community or in the world once the project has come to a close and there must be a need for it in the world or community.
