HOW TO REQUEST $10/HOUR REHEARSAL TIME FOR
184 ELDRIDGE STREET/UNIVERSITY SETTLEMENT (updated April 2026):
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
From September to June, spaces are NOT available from 3pm to 6pm Mondays to Fridays. From July to August, spaces are NOT available from 8am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays.
Unless otherwise noted on a room's schedule, the building is closed on Sundays.
1. See what's free on the appropriate calendar below. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE USING THE CORRECT CALENDAR FOR THE ROOM YOU ARE INTERESTED IN USING (Speyer Hall, The Art Room or The Library. PLEASE EMAIL ABOUT GYM AVAILABILITY).
2. Choose which date(s) and time(s) you'd like to rehearse. You may use the entire time designated on a specific date or only part of that time. The only available dates/times are labelled "FREE". Any other designations are times which are already reserved OR the building is closed! Any times which are not listed are not available!
3. Email spacerental[at]universitysettlement.org to request rehearsal times.
4. We will get back to you to either confirm your requested rehearsal times or let you know that times are not available. Once you confirm your rehearsals, you'll be sent a contract to e-sign and email back. Payment will be due by check or cash at your first rehearsal.
5. At this time, we are are only accepting rehearsal requests until August 2026. Sorry, we cannot accommodate day-of rehearsal requests.
6. If you're having difficulty accessing the calendars using a smartphone, please switch to a laptop or tablet. To access a larger version of a calendar, click on the pop-out icon on the upper right-hand side of the calendar.

NOTES ON USING 184 ELDRIDGE STREET/UNIVERSITY SETTLEMENT
184 Eldridge Street is located in the Lower East Side 10002. The closest subway stops are the B/D to Grand Street, F to 2nd Avenue, 6 to Spring Street. Speyer Hall and the Library are located on the second floor of the building. The Art Room is located in the basement. The Gym is located on the 5th floor.
There is an ADA accessible ramp into 184 Eldridge Street as well as an elevator which will go to the basement (where the Art Room is located) and the second floor (where Speyer Hall and the Library are located). The Gym is NOT ADA ACCESSIBLE. To access The Gym, you will need to take the elevator the fourth floor and walk up one flight of stairs.
You will be asked to sign-in when you enter 184 Eldridge Street for your rehearsal.
Use of the following is prohibited in the University Settlement building: (including but not limited to)
Illegal substances
Weapons including but not limited to firearms and knives
Live flame, candles, incense, and other items which use live flame
Glitter
Tap, flamenco, or other hard-soled dance shoes
Please do not affix anything to the walls of any space unless prior approval has been secured. Items cannot be affixed to any surface by use of:
Nails
Screws
Any item which would damage any surface in Speyer Hall
Glue
Non-approved tape
Any substance which will leave a residue on any surface in Speyer Hall
All rooms in 184 Eldridge are multi-use spaces and are shared among all University Settlement groups which call 184 Eldridge Street home. As such, it is in constant use and items for these other groups may be stored in the spaces.
The only restroom on the second floor is in Speyer Hall, in the upstage right corner of the space. All people working on the second floor in the office and library use this restroom. If you do not wish for anyone to use the restroom while you're rehearsing, you'll need to put the "Rehearsal in Progress, Please Use Bathroom Downstairs" sign on the front door. This can be found next to the memorial to James Speyer next to the risers. Even with the sign in place, please note that some people who may not read English may still enter the space to use the restroom. There are additional restrooms located in the basement.
