Jon-Carlos Evans is an American filmmaker, audiovisual artist and writer. A native of St.Louis, MO, he holds a B.A. in Film Production from Webster University-St. Louis and an MFA in Media Arts Production from the City College of New York.” His cinematic and audiovisual works oscillate between genres/themes of speculative fiction, archival recontextualization, and improvised realities through collisions of analog and digital mediums.
He is a recipient of the Eastman Kodak Student Grant (2006), the Aloha Accolade Award (2010, Honolulu International Festival), and the Silver Palm Award (2010, Mexico International Film Festival). His 2017 mid-length feature, "All Tomorrow's Children," won the Bronze Remi Award at Worldfest Houston International Film Festival and Best Narrative Film at the 2018 CUNY Film Festival. Most recently, his in-development series “The Lost Gods of Memphis” won the Script Series category at the 56th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival FANPITCH.
As musical alter ego Klaas von Karlos is the founder of the audiovisual collective ReVerse Bullets and collaborator in the projects BIINDS, Naked Sweatshop, Divan Rouge, and OXI. The debut ReVerse Bullets release, 2012’s “Drapetomania!” was nominated for “Best Mashup” at the MashRome 2013 Film Festival. Past residency selections and support for his work include Elektronmusikstudio Stockholm, Harvestwork Media Center NYC, CTM/Transmediale Hacklab, Ableton MIDI Hacklab, and Goethe Institut Kamerun. Notable past releases include “Dreampop Dysphoria” (as ReVerse Bullets), “The Mansa Musa Affair,” “Divan Rouge,” and “The I, Shinjia Mixtape”(as Naked Sweatshop).
His 2023 experimental/sci-fi short, “Ashé (Night)” premiered at the Zozimo Bulbul Black Film Festival at the historic Cine Odeon in Rio de Janeiro and is streaming worldwide from 7 Palms Entertainment and Soleil Space. He currently works as the Programme Lead for the Creative Production (Film) MA at Catalyst Institute for Creative Arts & Technology in Berlin.
