First Baptist Church-West
1801 Oaklawn Avenue Charlotte, NC 28216
The history of Charlotte's first Black Baptist church can be traced to 1867 when a group of recently freed slaves gathered under an oak tree on the grounds of predominately white First Baptist Church of Charlotte to discuss their Christian future. Through the Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, hurricanes, pandemics, and more, the congregation of First Baptist Church-West continues to abound and grow. For over 155 years, we embrace the theme...Making First Things First.
