The 13% Maintenance and Operation budget override would continue funding for programs currently serving District students. This override supports the District’s efforts to help maintain or restore present levels of service:
• Attract and retain highly qualified teachers
• Maintain full-day kindergarten and other specialized programs (such as enhanced reading and gifted)
• Provide special area instruction (such as art, music, band, chorus, languages, physical education, etc.)
• Keep class sizes manageable
• Fund a portion of all staff salaries
• Continue Nurses – Health Services
• Sustain athletics and extracurricular activities
• Allocate funding for assistant principals

The Governing Board of the District has called a special budget override election to be held on November 3, 2026 to request voter authorization to exceed the Maintenance and Operation Budget Limit by 13% of the revenue control limit, to fund existing programs, such budget override, to be in effect for a period of seven (7) years. The override authorized by this election shall be funded from a levy of taxes on the taxable property within the District.
With voter approval to continue the override, it is estimated that the total amount of the override for fiscal year 2027/2028 will be $32,824,128. The existing override is currently in its first year of the phase out period and has been reduced by one-third ($10,941,376). If the override is not approved, the existing 13% override will continue to phase out by reducing another one-third in fiscal year 2027/2028. The override authorization will no longer be levied in fiscal year 2028/2029 unless renewed. Each one-third reduction would lower the secondary tax rate by $0.36. The estimated secondary tax rate needed to fund the full override is $1.10 per one hundred dollars of net assessed valuation for secondary tax purposes. The estimated secondary tax rate for the proposed override is expected to be lower than the existing secondary tax rate for the current override prior to the phase-down period, as this override will maintain or restore programs that have been in place with prior year’s override approvals.
For the owner of a home with a limited property value of $236,970 (the average value of a home in the District), the increased cost of the override from the current year is estimated to be $85.
