Why I wear a Mask

Laura Peter

This photo is from the first day of early voting in Eau Claire. I was a poll-worker for both the drive-up early voting at City Hall and Election Day. All poll-workers wore masks and practiced other measures to minimize risk of disease transmission.

As a physician, I wear a mask because I know that doing so decreases the chance that I might cause others to become infected if I am contagious but not yet symptomatic; and it decreases the chance that I may become ill from interacting with someone else who is contagious. As a parent, I wear a mask in an attempt to minimize chance that I will become ill and, in turn, cause my family to become ill
