Enumeration

Enumeration is a more active form of information gathering where information from our first stage is used for the first time to find more targeted information. This may involve actually making a connection to the target or scanning it to find specifics that go beyond a simple public search.

The goal is to find attack vectors that can be exploited later. Think of it as using sonar to pinpoint certain targets. We are actively using a tool on targets to get more precise information.

A sonar ping can be detected, likewise, several enumeration methods can also be detected by targets so this is more invasive than simple info gathering, but no attempts to access systems or use exploits are being made yet. After all, the goal so far is still gathering information although the methods are different from simple reconnaissance.
