Musical Director, Pender Island Community Choir
Fall Winter 2026 / Spring 2027
The Pender Island Community Choir is currently accepting submissions for the role of Musical Director for our Fall-Winter 2026 and Spring 2027 sessions. Each session includes a weekly two-hour evening rehearsal, culminating in 2-3 performances.
Position Overview
The Musical Director is a central role for the Pender Island Community Choir. The director is responsible for both the creative direction of the season, as well as leading the choir through rehearsals and performance. We are a community choir with members who have been singing for years all the way to first-time singers. Our ideal candidate is a leader who can bring us all together to help us grow musically and put on a great concert - all while having a good time.
Key Responsibilities
Programming the musical selections for the Fall-Winter and Spring concerts (preference is for a director who can commit to both sessions)
Collaborating with Board Treasurer to ensure music expenses meet budget
Preparing for and leading weekly rehearsals
Working in collaboration with board members and accompanist to provide practice recordings, as well as regular updates for members
Working with the choir, accompanist, and other collaborators in preparation and execution of two concerts at the end of each session
The ideal candidate
Has experience, if not expertise in leading choral groups
Is eager to help our choir (with varying levels of experience) to develop musically
Is a strong verbal communicator, capable of respectfully commanding attention during rehearsals
Is passionate about community choirs and eager to conduct us
Compensation
$5000 for the year, plus a payout from membership fees once/if the minimum participant number (30) is reached.
