In 1888, a group of Swamis came to visit our shores. One of the areas they visited was Penal.
The Penal Hindu Mandir houses a Goverdhan that was installed by these Swamis. Since then and to this day, Poojan is still performed on the very spot.
The construction of the Mandir began around 1890 and was completed around 1912. This was only possible through the dedication and committment of some great individuals during the years 1912 to 1944.
The "mahants" who were responsible for the upliftment of the Mandir were: Raghubar Das, Raghunath Das, Hansa Das and Tamesar Das.
Then from around 1944 to 1989, Ramdass Sadoo and until 2013, Balkaran Ramdass.
The original structure was made of dirt, interwoven with grass. In 1980, a concrete frame was built around the original structure with the intention of preserving it.
