Greetings PEM Families,
The following guidelines are part of P-E-M’s Student Transportation Policy (#707). We ask all parents and guardians to discuss these directions with their children and emphasize the importance of following them.
Rules at the Bus Stop
Arrive at your bus stop five minutes before your scheduled pick-up time. The school bus driver will not wait for late students.
Respect others’ property while waiting at your bus stop.
Use appropriate language.
Stay away from the street, road, or highway when waiting for the bus.
Wait until the bus stops completely before approaching.
After getting off the bus, promptly move away
If you need to cross the street, always do so at least 10 feet in front of the bus, where the driver can see you. Wait for the driver to signal before crossing.
Do not fight, harass, intimidate, throw objects, or participate in horseplay.
Do not use alcohol, tobacco, or drugs.

How to be a Successful Bus Rider (posted on buses)
Be Respectful.
Be Safe.
Be Responsible.
Be Positive.
Bus Route Rules and Expectations
Riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right. According to adopted administrative discipline procedures, the school district will enforce consequences for bus stop and bus misconduct. Serious misconduct may be reported to local law enforcement.
Consequences are progressive and may include suspension of bus privileges. The school district will determine a student’s ability to ride the bus for co-curricular and extracurricular events (e.g., field trips or competitions). Parents or guardians will be notified of any suspension of bus privileges.
Students damaging school buses will be held responsible for the damages. Failure to pay for damages (or make arrangements to pay) within two weeks may result in the loss of bus privileges until damages are paid.
Parents/Guardians Responsibilities
Become familiar with school district rules, policies, regulations, and the principles of school bus safety and thoroughly review them with their children.
Support safe riding and walking practices and recognize that students are responsible for their actions.
Communicate safety concerns to school administrators.
Monitor bus stops, if possible.
Ensure their children are at the bus stop five minutes before the bus arrives.
Ensure their children are adequately dressed for the weather.
Have a plan in case the bus is late.
