The Chemo-Enzymatic Processes Laboratory (CEPL) is a young and dynamic research team. The CEPL was founded in October 2021 when Dr. Alessandro Pellis joined the University of Genova as Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry.
The group's main research interests are:
Enzymatic synthesis of polymers carrying lateral functionalities;
Degradation and surface functionalization of polymeric materials;
Biocatalysts immobilization, optimization and its biochemical characterizations;
Chemo-enzymatic post-polymerization functionalization techniques;
Valorization of the lignocellulosic feedstock.
Enzymatic cycle for the synthesis, functionalization, modification, and depolymerization of bio-based polyesters as reported in Pellis et al. 2016, Trends Biotechnol., 34, 316-328. DOI: 10.1016/j.tibtech.2015.12.009
An example of chemo-enzymatic biomass valorization process as reported in Vastano et al. 2019, Macromol. Rapid Commun., 40, 1900361. DOI: 10.1002/marc.201900361
