I bloody love old pictures.
Not necessarily the famous ones. Not even necessarily the beautiful ones. I love the strange ones — the pictures that make you stop scrolling and think, “What the fuck is going on here?”
There is something about genuinely old artwork that you just can't recreate. The colours, the expressions, the ridiculous details, the strange ideas and the sheer amount of imagination that went into making them. I can spend far too long looking at a tiny detail in a centuries-old picture and wondering what on earth the artist was thinking.
That's what Pekuliar Piktures is about.
I find old, odd and gloriously ridiculous pictures and give them a new place to be enjoyed — sometimes as cards, calendars, tiny books or prints, and sometimes simply because the picture itself is too good not to share.
And I don't use AI.
That's deliberate. For me, the whole point is the real thing: the quirks, imperfections, strange proportions, faded colours and wonderfully weird imagination of the original artist. Why generate something strange when there are already thousands of genuinely strange pictures sitting in archives and collections?
No AI. Just real old pictures. And a slightly unhealthy appreciation for the weird ones.
