During this one week project, students will explore what it means to be an individual and gaining knowledge of themselves. In kindergarten, students learned about uniqueness. Now, in grade 1, we want to expand on this skill while also teaching the students about museum studies, artifacts, and how both of these things can tell a story. A new take on an old favourite (Show and Tell), this PBL will look at storytelling through artifacts.
During this two week project, students will explore artifacts from the past and compare them to present-day versions of the items. When these items are compared, it opens discussions about plastics, environment, and sustainability. This plan allows provides group work where students will design a product made from recyclables or sustainable materials. At the end of the two weeks, there will be a showcase culminating in a “Market Day" event.
These lessons explore the food culture in Prince Edward Island. This plan discusses the unique food culture in PEI that was influenced by our ancestors and those who live here today. Students will compare the food we consume today with food of the past. Students will learn about growing food, food trends, food skills, etc. The final component of this unit plan is creating a classroom cookbook with student recipes.
