Tate McRae released her third studio album, So Close to What, in February 2025, solidifying her place in the current pop space. Now, just a few months later, she’s back with a brand new single: “Just Keep Watching,” which was released on May 30 as part of the Formula 1 movie soundtrack.
McRae first rose in popularity as a young competitive dancer before making her way into the music industry. She released her debut single “One Day” in 2017, and since then, she has been combining her professional dance skills and vocals to create her own art, something the music industry hadn’t seen recently. Some fans even compare her to pop icons like Britney Spears, who was also known for being a singer and dancer.

“Just Keep Watching” had already gained traction online before its official release. The song originally leaked on social media in early 2025 and was rumored to include South African singer-songwriter Tyla. Though Tyla doesn’t appear on the official version, fans are still holding out hope for a future collaboration. Even before the track dropped, it had already generated over 10,000 TikTok videos and dance trends, proving McRae’s success and impact.
This new release comes just two weeks after the release of McRae’s first-ever No. 1 song. ‘What I Want,’ an unexpected collaboration between her and country artist Morgan Wallen, just reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The song attracted mixed reactions and reviews from both fans as well as the general public, as Wallen’s controversial history and values clash with McRae’s diverse and progressive fan base. Since its release on May 16, McRae has done minimal promotion for the track, posting only one story to Instagram prior to the release.
X user @AngelsRaes took to social media to share their thoughts, “My thing with tate McRae (and the R&B girlies) is that as soon as they start popping off they collab with controversial/abusive men. What about Tate’s audience says Morgan wallen !?!”
The momentum behind McRae is undeniable. As she continues on her sold-out Miss Possessive Tour and builds on the success of So Close to What, fans are wondering: Can Tate’s “Just Keep Watching” become her next chart-topper? Whether it breaks into the Top 10 or not, one thing is clear, Tate McRae is not an upcoming artist to watch for. She has already arrived.
