P.E.

Welcome to PE

Welcome to the wonderful world of Physical Education. This is the only course, which, by the very nature of its content, has the potential to affect students to how they feel every moment of every day for the rest of their life.  The goal of the physical education class is to develop a positive attitude toward physical activity and to promote lifelong participation in physical activity. With a healthy mind, body, and spirit, students are empowered to experience success at school, with their families, and in their communities. The physical education and wellness curriculum provides solid foundations in Active Living, Physical Literacy, and Personal and Community Well-being. As students continue their education at higher grades the main goals of physical education are to develop a positive attitude toward physical activity, to develop the whole individual, and finally to promote lifelong participation in physical activity.

The key aim is to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. The hope is that students will assume personal responsibility to lead an active way of life.

Along with the foundations, there are four general outcomes.

General Outcome A: Activity

Students will acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities; i.e., outdoor pursuits, dance, games, types of gymnastics, and individual activities.

General Outcome B: Benefits Health

Students will understand, experience, and appreciate the health benefits that result from physical activity.

General Outcome C: Cooperation

Students will interact positively with others.

General Outcome D: Do it Daily…for Life!

During physical education, students will have meaningful learning opportunities to develop personal and social skills and behaviours as they interact respectfully within various indoor, outdoor, and alternative environments. The wellness education component of physical education and wellness promotes the health of individuals and communities.

Students will be given the opportunity to explore movement in a fun and engaging environment where everyone can feel welcomed and successful. This allows students to partipate in social engagement and build connections with classmates that can extend beyond physical education. Effort, commitment, and determination to lead an active healthy lifestyle remain important factors in physical education. The skills in the program can improve a student's quality of life throughout his/her lifetime.

Each class is structured to have free time, a warmup followed by skill development of a sport or activity, and ending in a cool-down activity. Each week there will be one class designed for free time for students to pursue activities they wish to engage in and participate.
