PedalPath Privacy Policy
Effective: October 3, 2026
The short version
PedalPath has no accounts and no sign-in. We (the developers) do not collect, receive, store, or sell your personal data. Your rides and settings are saved only on your phone.
Your location
The app uses your phone’s GPS to show your speed, distance, and position. This location is processed on your phone and is never sent to us. The app only uses location while it is open.
Data stored on your phone
Saved rides (date, distance, time, speeds, and the path you rode), your favourite places, and your settings are stored on your phone only. You can delete them at any time in Settings → “Delete all my data”, or by uninstalling the app.
Map services
To show maps, search for places, calculate routes, and find nearby trails, the app sends requests to free third-party services based on OpenStreetMap:
• Map images: OpenFreeMap. Receives the map area you are viewing (on your phone, and on your watch if you use the watch app). Privacy policy: https://openfreemap.org/privacy/
• Place search: Photon, run by komoot. Receives the text you type and your approximate area (rounded to about 1 km) to show nearby results first.
• Bike routes: the OSRM routing server run by FOSSGIS e.V. (fastest routes) and the BRouter server at brouter.de (balanced, quiet-street, shortcut and "My route" routes). Both receive the start point (your current position) and destination of a route; for "My route", BRouter also receives the points you tap on the map. FOSSGIS states that route requests are stored in its server logs; brouter.de may also log requests.
• Nearby trails and street names: the Overpass API (overpass-api.de, with overpass.private.coffee as a backup). Receives a search box of about 7 km around your approximate position (rounded to about 1 km). The same service is used to look up street names for spoken turn directions on balanced, quiet-street and shortcut routes; for that it receives points along your route near each turn.
Like any website, these services also see your IP address. They do not receive your name or an account, and none of this data is sent to us.
Spoken directions
Turn-by-turn voice directions use your phone’s built-in text-to-speech. Nothing is sent over the internet for this. You can turn voice off in Settings.
Wear OS watch
If you install PedalPath on a Wear OS watch, the phone app sends the ride screen to it (speed, distance, time, your current position and direction, the route you are navigating, and the next turn; no ride history). It travels through Google Play services’ Wear OS connection: directly over Bluetooth, or, when Bluetooth isn’t available, through Google’s servers with end-to-end encryption. Only the PedalPath app on your own watch can read it. None of it is sent to us.
Advertising
The app shows no ads and contains no advertising or analytics code.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be shown in the app and on this page with a new effective date.
