Shakespearean Productions

Lester B Pearson School for the Arts

At the end of January each year the grade 8 students of Lester B Pearson School for the Arts stage a Shakespearean production. The shows are generally about 90 minutes long, and have been edited by the students to retain all scenes, but are boiled down to the main plot lines.

The students audition for the roles they would like, and are involved in all aspects of backstage from design, building and set painting to making the costumes. In general we try to use whatever skills the students have and/or show an interest in, in the development of the production. There are four casts for these shows, and each student has both a major and a minor role.

We have five grade levels at our school, grade 4 to grade 8. As a result this allows us to rotate through five different Shakespearean tragedy‘s. These are: Hamlet, Antony & Cleopatra, Romeo & Juliet, Othello, and King Lear.

The shows are all live streamed, but are also available here for you to view. We hope that you enjoy our versions of some of Shakespeare’s great tragedies!
