Board of Directors

Ennis Bryant

Ennis knows Pearl Fryar from early childhood in Clinton, NC, and they shared rural school days through high school. Like Pearl, he attended college in NC and lived for a time in New York City, eventually settling in Bishopville, SC, the latter being a surprising reconnection. Ennis has been a strong ally for the Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden.

As an educator, human services administrator, basketball coach, and school band and chorus director, Ennis founded the West Florence Gospel Ensemble. He sings and plays guitar. In Brooklyn, NY, Ennis worked with Catholic Charities as Assistant Director of Builders for Families and Youth. In SC, Ennis was Principal of Bishopville High School, Co-Principal at Lee Central High School, and Assistant to the Superintendent for the Lee County Public School District.

Ennis’ community service includes medical and dental foundations, NAACP, Council on Aging, First Citizens Bank Board of Directors in Bishopville, and current membership for the Santee-Wateree Transportation Authority Board. Public service includes roles as former chairman of the Bishopville Election Commission and of the Lee County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.

He is an elected member of the Bishopville City Council, and currently serves as Mayor Pro Temp of the City of Bishopville.

Ennis received his BS from Fayetteville State University (NC), and his MS in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. He also graduated from the SC Department of Educational School Leadership Executive Institute and the SC Institute of Government.

The recipient of numerous awards for his achievements, Ennis’ motto is: “A life of service is what God intends for each of us, and no service is so rewarding as service to others.”
