Project Graduation is a planned safe event for the graduating seniors. It follows immediately after graduation and lasts until the morning. The event is planned by the Project Graduation Committee and the contents are secret until it starts so every year is different. Committee chairs are volunteers among parents and they can start fundraising as early as Freshman year. Project Graduation is a gift from PTSA's members to our graduates with safety foremost in mind.
Project Graduation Guidance
The Project Graduation Committee is appointed by the PTSA and must be followed according to National PTA Guidelines. The PTSA President and another executive board member are automatically members of the PG Committee and stay involved in their activities. Financial reporting must be done monthly to the PTSA and be in accordance to all applicable laws and guidance. An annual audit is performed of the PG account after the year ends to be submitted to the Hawaii State PTSA.
How do we fund Project Graduation?
The PG Committee tries to fundraise about $50,000+ alone and the rest is paid for by student contracts. The student contracts may start at around $200 and goes up closer to graduation. The reason for this is the cost involved in booking venues, buses, food, entertainment, and vendors. Food alone can cost $200/head and the costs rise every year as venues are limited and they know it. As the head count rises, so does the cost. We want the event to be attractive to students so we put in a lot of effort. The Project Graduation Committees work very hard and they also have graduating seniors. The time they put in alone is amazing and PTSA strives to support them during their difficulties.
What if families cannot afford the contract price?
Every year, PG Sponsorships are offered to students who cannot afford paying the contract or encounter a hardship. We want as many seniors as possible to participate. If you need a sponsorship, please indicate it on the contract. Depending on the fundraising, we offer as many sponsorships as possible.
