We are proud to be the most active chapter of the NHSDA chapter in Colorado! Here are some of the things we have done since the beginning of our chapter in February of 2016.
Nhsda was proud to induct five new members this year, two into the Junior chapter, and three into the Secondary chapter! Danielle Heller gave a very enlightening speech about relating mosaics to life! after the ceremony we enjoyed snacks and took pictures!
We were beyond thrilled to be able to throw our 3rd daddy daughter dance at Peak Academy! We were very successful with the outcome and love to spread laughter and smiles through dance! Nhsda is looking forward to more daddy Daughter dances in the future!
In January of 2025 our NHSDA chapter attended our 11th annual CoDEO conference. This year, the piece that we preformed was student coreographed by Chloe Davis, Kaylee Moore, and Makenna Moore. While at CoDEO our students enjoyed going to all difference styles of dance classes and spending time with each other! Students were split into groups of which we each preformed a dance of an individual style, taught by one of the many teachers of the conference. The weekend was so much fun and we will be looking forward to it next year!
This year our showcase was a huge hit! Our members participated in a multitude of dances, with styles including tap, poms, jazz, lyrical, aerial, contemporary, modern, and hip hop. Each dance is entirely student choreographed, and our showcases are a great way to highlight the effort each student puts into their pieces.
NHSDA collaborated with the Mountain resource center to collect coats for those in need. Donation boxes were set up around the studio and signs were posted throughout the community to get support for the coat drive. Overall we were very successful in the amount of coats that were donated. With the help of Chloe Davis (current president) and her mom, Jamie Davis, the coats were taken to the Mountain Resource Center in Conifer, Colorado where they were distributed to those in need. We would like to thank everyone who donated!
At the end of March we hosted a spring themed Daddy Daughter Dance. This was open to the public and families of Peak, and the outcome was amazing. We had a photobooth, snacks, and a big dance party! We love sharing our love for dance!
In January of 2024 our Chapter attended the 10th annual CoDEO conference which was held at the Pueblo Convention Center. Peak Academy NHSDA preformed a piece choreographed by one of our sponsors, Maddie Jacobsen. We spent our weekend here taking a variety of classes taught by guest teachers, and we were split into groups where we learned a dance in just a few hours and performed it at the end of the weekend! CoDEO is very long weekend filled with so much dancing and learning, but is always one of our chapters favorite events!
Our annual Showcase was our first event of 2024! Our members collaborated in smaller groups to create personalized unique pieces, which were then performed for the Peak and Conifer Communities. Nicole O'Farrell's Essential Dance Company was also invited to perform a few of their pieces.
In December of 2023, a few members from our chapter returned to Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child delivers gifts to kids around the world who never get the chance to get one otherwise. Our members spent their time there, sorting, packaging, and scanning boxes of toys.
In October of 2023 our chapter hosted a Moana Movie Night to help promote our Talent Group Production "I am Moana" led by Nicole O'Farrell. We had many snacks and turned our studio into a Movie Theater for the night!
In September of 2023 our chapter was asked to perform at the National Dance Education Organization Showcase, which was hosted in Denver! Danielle Heller choregraphed our tap piece, titled The Toast, and Maddie Jacobson choregraphed our modern piece.
For our first fundraiser of the year, NHSDA put on a dance showcase at the Indigo Bridge Theatre. Members of our club choreographed and cleaned dances in small groups and preformed them. Nicole O'farrell's Essential Dance Company was also invited to preform a few of their pieces. We sold tickets to parents, friends, and members of the community who wanted to come see what NHSDA had put together.
For the 2022 Christmas Season, NHSDA went to Operation Christmas Child, an organization that helps pack gifts for kids in 3rd world countries around the world. We all volunteered for 4 hours, which was a great opportunity to help make a difference in other people's lives as well as bond with each other.
This year, CoDEO was held at the Sheraton Denver Tech Center. We brought 22 members from our club as well as 3 students from Evergreen School of Ballet. They had a variety of different master classes including hip hop, tap, musical theatre, Bollywood, Polynesian, and modern. We also got to work with choreographers and other attendees of the conference to put together a group piece to be preformed. One of our members, Jade VanLennep, got awarded the choreographers award for being a leader and an outstanding dancer in her group. In addition, Peak Academy NHSDA preformed a piece choreographed by one of our sponsors, Maddie Jacobsen.
With love in the air around Valentines Day 2023, NHSDA hosted a daddy-daughter dance. We invited everyone who dances at Peak Academy, as well as anyone outside the studio who wanted to join. The dance had food, a picture booth, and there was even a swing dance class! It had an amazing turnout.
In April 2023, NHSDA brought a group of 15 members to Disneyland in California. This was a once in a lifetime experience that our club will never forget. While here, we preformed a synchronized parade dance with 500 other dancers from around the world. The parade went straight down Main St., with people crowding the sides wanting to see all of the dancers. While in Disney, we also got to explore the whole park and stayed in the Disneyland Hotel.
For the first time, NHSDA held a Spring Cleaning Thrift Shop in 2023. We asked the community and the members of the club to bring in unused or lightly used clothes to be sold at our outdoor shop. We collected girls clothes and shoes, women's jeans, leggings, dresses, sweaters, hoodies, T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, and men's pants and tops. We sold them all at low prices for members of the club, people who saw signs from the street, and dancers leaving class to shop from. All of our donations that weren't bought were brought to Plato's Closet consignment, then the rest to Goodwill.
We have attended CoDEO (both the community summit and the conference) for many years! Several times, we have brought dances to the community summit, and twice have won a scholarship for our student choreography. All of our dances have carried a strong theme of light, and hands. At the CoDEO conference in January of 2020, we were accepted to perform a dance choreographed by Sadie Dillman! Also at the 2020 conference, some of our members recieved scholarships.
In January of 2021, we had the opportunity to participate in a virtual conference. It was going to be an event that members who wished to participate could do at the studio together! Unfortunately, due to a covid outbreak at the studio, we had to quarantine instead. We look forward to being able to go back to the conference when covid is over!

We performed a showcase to benefit the aerial program at Peak Academy of Dance, with the hope of raising enough money to buy new rigging. All members worked in groups to choreograph and clean dances. We also had many aerial dances, as well as a poms dance and a tap dance created by peak teachers. This was an amazing opportunity for us to improve as choreographers and dancers, and we hope to get another opportunity to host a showcase like this one!
In fall of 2018 we held a clothing drive for Traveling Tutus, an organization that collects and delivers dance costumes to all over the world, sharing the wealth of dance! We collected around 50 tutus, and were very happy to have been involved in something to benefit so much of the dance community!
Spring of 2019 we partnered with Kinetic Dance in Evergreen to host a dance-a-thon to benefit Mountain backpacks. We participated again on February 8th, 2020, and hope to do it again this year!
We put on our annual drop and shop in 2017, 2018, and 2019. With games movies, crafts and snacks, we bring holiday spirit, while helping parents prepare for the season!
In fall of 2016, we held a showcase for the students at Terpsichore dance studio in Bailey. It gave them an opportunity to dance for their teacher Pat one last time. Pat later died of cancer, and is missed greatly by her dancers. Rest in Peace, Miss Pat
