Established on January 1, 2019, and based in Portland, Oregon, PDX Radio was founded by a group of creatives with a shared mission to build a space where authentic, dope music could thrive—unfiltered, uncensored, and independent from the mainstream.

At the heart of PDX Radio is a deep respect for artistry and culture. 

The station was born from a vision by professional musician and producer Rappy Dooski, who recognized the lack of opportunity and visibility for independent artists in the traditional music industry. Rather than wait for the industry to change, he built something new. What started as an independent podcast quickly grew into a community platform known for its dedication to originality and culture-first content.

Today, PDX Radio streams music 24/7 via getpdxradio.com featuring a curated blend of independent Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, and instrumental works from around the world. Listeners can discover emerging talent, underground veterans, and genre-pushing creators all in one place.

Much of PDX Radio’s professional advancement can be credited to co-founder and business lead Alyssa McPherson, who stepped up to restructure the platform during a period of transition. With a background in web design, digital marketing, and business law, Alyssa helped turn the idea of PDX Radio into a scalable brand. She manages the day-to-day operations, schedules programming, builds and maintains the website, handles artist outreach, coordinates interviews, and leads branding and design efforts. Her work behind the scenes has been instrumental in transforming PDX Radio from a local station to a national force in independent music.

One of the platform’s most celebrated features is the PDX Radio Charts, 

a monthly ranking of the most popular tracks submitted by independent artists and voted on by fans. 

This initiative offers emerging talent a credible space to be recognized based on merit and fan engagement—not industry politics or pay-to-play tactics. 

The charts not only increase visibility but often serve as a step to broader opportunities, including interviews, playlist placements, and media coverage.

Another flagship initiative is the "50 States of Dope" campaign—a long-running content series that highlights standout independent Hip Hop and R&B artists from every U.S. state. Through a mix of digital storytelling, social media carousels, and playlist features, this series helps uncover regional gems and builds a true sense of national community within the underground music scene.
