How can I donate to the fridges/pantries?

The fridges and pantries are available to access 24/7. You can donate or take items from any location, any time!

Which location should I donate to/has the highest need?

All of the locations are getting high traffic and empty out frequently so any of the locations are great to donate to. Find your local fridge/pantry here.

How do I start a fridge?

We have a short step-by-step guide here. We also have some BIPOC builders we can hire to help build structures or here's a blueprint!

How do I get involved?

Portland Free Fridge is entirely volunteer-run. Please reach out to us on Instagram or via email to join our communication channels.

Can I donate money?

Yes! Our venmo is @pdx-freefridge and our cash tag is $pdxfreefridge. We use money to hire BIPOC builders and artists, purchase shelter materials, prepared meal supplies (containers, some ingredients, etc), and occasionally we buy hygiene/food items for the fridges.

Can I donate hygiene items?

Yes, please place them in pantries only. Menstruation products are always welcome and needed.

Can I donate pet food?

Yes! Please just make sure it's seal and labeled clearly with the date.

Can I donate clothing?

You can drop small items like gloves or socks however, we want to prevent the fridges and pantries from becoming a dump site and ask that you donate large clothing items elsewhere such as Rosehaven!

Can I make a meal?

Yes, you can. Please package each meal in a sealable container labeled with the date made, ingredients, and any allergen information.

Why can't I donate expired or opened food?

While we agree that some dates may not accurately reflect the precise dates that food goes bad, we still have to consider the well-being of those who utilize our fridges. We don’t want people who visit our fridges to be gambling on whether the food they’re eating will be safe to eat. We also try to comply with food safety guidelines so that we don’t put the entire project at risk of getting shut down. Above all we are trying to provide free dependably safe food and keep our community healthy :)
