Dede Kondolf Guinean
November 11, 2022
Dorothy “Dede” Kondolf Guinan passed away Nov 3, 2022 at age 94.
Dorothy was born in Rochester, New York, in 1928 to August and Martha VanCaeseele Her family had immigrated from Belgium and purchased a farm in Farmington, New York. They grew celery, onions, and potatoes in the rich muck soil. The deep downturn in the US during the great depression prompted their return to Belgium to live for several years. Dorothy was school-age by the time they returned to the farm. She did not speak English when she started school in a one-room schoolhouse on Rte 96. Her years on the farm were filled with hard work, weeding onions, her horse, and her family. She loved the woods and the wildflowers and swam in every ‘puddle and pond.’ That love of nature followed her throughout her life. Dorothy was an excellent student, loved music, played the flute, and loved to draw. She graduated from Victor High School and the University of Rochester with a degree in Nursing. She had a lifelong sense of pride and love for nursing and the University of Rochester.
Dorothy worked as a hospital nurse until she married Richard Kondolf in 1951. They raised 3 children together, Jenny, Mike, and Jim. They purchased a big, beautiful old house on Main Street in Victor in the early 1960s. She remained there for over 60 years. The tumultuous decade of the sixties and life’s struggles drew her even closer to her beloved family. Her sister Elizabeth and brother Dick were a constant support and her best friends. They celebrated, cried, laughed, vacationed, and partied together. Summer vacations on Canandaigua Lake with 6 adults, 10 children, 2 dachshunds, and 1 poodle were joyful times for all. It was during these years that she developed a love of antiques. Dorothy curated and collected many beautiful antiques, decorating her home with her unique finds. Eventually, encouraged by her sister, she became a dealer selling at local shows. Dorothy always had a good eye and a sense of style and design. She loved American primitives, oriental rugs, fine art, and of course, her spectacular old iron bank collection.
It was during this time also that Dorothy went back to school. She pursued and achieved her master’s degree in education as a school nurse teacher. She went to work for Pittsford schools and remained as the nurse at Barker Rd middle school, until she retired. She loved her work as a school nurse and health teacher, making many lifelong friends.
Dorothy married Bobby Guinan when she was in her 60s. They enjoyed life and love to the fullest with many friends, world travels, playing bridge, going to auctions, walking in the mall, swimming, and lake life at the cottage. In the late afternoon, they enjoyed a glass of wine or cocktail, crackers, cheese, and stories of the day often shared with friends, family, and a cozy fire in the kitchen fireplace.
Dorothy was always gracious and inspired others in the ways she lived her life. She was grateful for each day, having known hardship herself. Her forthright honesty could be humorous as well as humbling. Her optimism was infectious—she consoled the evening worries with “don’t worry, it will look better in the morning,” and it usually did. She greeted all with her beautiful smile and never turned down a good piece of Belgium chocolate, a chance to dance or hold hands with Bobby.
__
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Joe) Duba, son James (Beverly) Kondolf, stepdaughter Ann (Donald) Dunham, 7 grandchildren, Scarlet Duba, Jasper (Layne) Duba, Kate Kondolf, Carly (Chad) Gepfrey, Angel (Kelly) Collazo, Kirstin Teall, and Hannah Kondolf, 4 step- grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and her much-loved nieces. Survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Susan (Birchenough) Finn and children; Sean (Jodi) Finn of Honeoye Falls, Patrick (Paula) Finn of Windsor, Michael Finn of Andover, Michele Costik Pettis of Nashville, Chantal Costik Travaglini of Livonia, Fr. Michael Costik of Canandaigua, and John (Laura) Costik of Livonia; grandchildren, Abbey, Mollie, Conor, Brian, Mick, Anna, Patrick, Liam, Sean Patrick, and Mary Colleen Finn, Owen Pettis, Rayvon Pettis, Grace Pettis, George Pettis, Gabriella and Gianni Travaglini, and Sarah and Evan Costik; siblings, Maureen Rohde, Marilyn Seeley, and Thomas (Jane) Finn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
He met the love of his life, Sue, while singing in the church choir at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Livonia, New York. Rick and Sue, each holding steadfast their own identity, were never separate in their shared values, their mutual concern for one another, and their world-view.
A man of great faith demonstrated through good works, Rick quietly and faithfully shared his time, talents, and treasure with many charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The American Legion, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, local area Food Banks, and The Wounded Warrior Project. A friend or neighbor telling Rick that they had a job to do instantly put that task on Rick’s To-Do list.
A true family man; Rick was always at a grandchild’s ball game or school function quietly encouraging and supporting every facet of their life. Blessed with the gift of gab, Rick loved to share a story and tell a joke. Like every Irishman, Rick enjoyed the company of others and sharing a story, joke, or song. Traveling to the Old Sod three times during his lifetime was looked upon fondly. Rick appreciated the abundance of God’s blessings and especially reveled in the outdoors and was an avid hunter, golfer, and walker.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 29th, from 4-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY. Luke Parisi
October 12, 2021
October 9, 2021. Former Pittsford School District Principal and Rochester City Councilman Anthony Luke Parisi has passed away after a long, valiant battle with cancer. He was 84. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Molly; son, Christopher (Danita Jo); daughter, Kathleen; grandson, Anthony (Andreea); and sister, Vincenette Maracle; plus numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Luke was born in Niagara Falls in January 1937 of Italian immigrants, spending his childhood years there and visiting the family farm. Even at that early age, at the height of World War Two, he could recall parties for cousins headed for Europe, some of whom never returned.
After his retirement, he visited the Normandy beaches and the American Cemetery near Omaha Beach to honor and pay respect to those fallen heroes with tears of gratitude.
Music played an enormous part of Luke’s life. He and his best friends from high school would play jazz clarinet in tiny clubs, where no one cared how old they were, only if they could carry a tune. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Fredonia and Master’s from the University Of Arizona, both in musical performance, before accepting a position as music teacher at Pittsford Junior High School in the mid-‘60’s. Some local musicians today still trace their roots back to Luke’s influence, and the fun they had playing theme songs from TV shows like The Mod Squad. As he taught music, Luke became interested in school administration, earning an additional degree and assuming leadership roles throughout the Pittsford school system. He eventually became Principal at Thornell Road Elementary school, where they earned the prestigious Excelsior award.
In the early ‘60s, Luke became more involved in politics at both the local and national level, campaigning for JFK, and later, his brother Bobby. This led to Luke running for and being elected to the Rochester City Council in the ‘70s, where he championed for civil rights and led the charge for affordable community development and the renovation of the many neighborhoods including Cornhill, among other achievements.
His involvement in the run up to the presidential election in 1976 led to Luke and his wife Molly being invited to attend Jimmy Carter’s Inauguration and Ball, where they met the incoming 39th President.
After a very fulfilling career, Luke retired in 2001. He spent the rest of his life spending time with friends and family, taking up some photography and traveling across the planet, from the Caribbean to Italy to Romania, and of course his beloved Cape Cod.
Luke’s nature was to help all, and he leaves behind a legacy of caring, guiding, and love. He will be missed by all and forgotten by none.
Special thanks to the staff at Rochester General Hospital 6th Floor Sands wing, and Luke’s loving caregivers, the Postwaite family.
Friends may call Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 4-7PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 14, 11:30AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 534 Oxford Street, Rochester, NY 14607. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Supper Program.

Born June 9, 1933 in Jamestown, NY and a graduate of Jamestown High School, Mrs. Hovey became a teacher after graduating from Geneseo, with graduate work at the universities of Syracuse, Buffalo and Rochester. She retired from teaching after 41 years, having been an educator of children from kindergarten to English and Social Studies at the secondary level. Over her lifetime, Mrs. Hovey was an avid sports enthusiast, in golfing, boating, ice skating and skiing in particular, having an ice rink in her back yard for many years, and a participant in
driving events with the Mercedes Benz Club and Jaguar Club at various tracks in the eastern US. For several years, she taught the primary boating course for Power Squadron. Since the age of 5, it would not be unusual to see her knitting at anytime, anyplace. That was a great source of enjoyment and gifting.
At the time of her death, she was a member of the Women's Association of Oak Hill, Canandaigua Yacht Club and the Canandaigua Country Club. For many years, she was politically active and continued to follow political events nationally and locally. Anyone knowing Bruce also knew that he was possessed with the love of travel. He conquered all 7 continents, visited over 100 countries, made a multitude of global friends, and left his heart of gold wherever he travelled.

Marjorie's adventurous spirit, and love of encountering people who were different from her, led her to travel to over 30 countries, with Tibet, Southern China and Vietnam as the highlights of her life. Artifacts from these journeys adorn her and Cary's home. Other adventures included heli-skiing, and a glider ride to celebrate her 80th birthday.
In recent years she has promoted the work of the Himalayan Cataract Project, to carry on the legacy of her son David Oliver Relin's humanitarian work as a best-selling author and journalist. She was an early leader in the Rochester Women's Giving Circle, was active for decades in the Rochester chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women, and got herself to the inaugural Women's March on Washington.
Marjorie's love of gardening inspired a sanctuary of beauty, welcoming passersby, receiving visitors up to her last days. Her love of color was also expressed in her elegant appearance, floral arrangements, home decor, and her one-of-a-kind elaborately knit sweaters for her grandchildren.
Marjorie touched the lives of all who were fortunate to meet her, and will be deeply missed. Her home with her husband Cary Ratcliff was a place of family, friends, cultural and classical
musical gatherings. In her husband's words, “Go in beauty. Be wrapped in love. Go in peace.”

In 1970, Earl was named Sales Manager for the Rochester division of the St. Joe Paper Company and the family settled in Pittsford NY, a suburb of Rochester. Earl was very active in his children's activities. He was President of the Pittsford Vince Lombardi Football League while his sons played football and a daughter was a cheerleader. Earl also coached Little League Baseball for a number of years. Earl loved being near the water and was an avid boater and sailor for most of his adult life. He was a proud member of the Rochester Yacht Club where he served on the Board of Directors and as House Chairman in the late 1980's. After their five children moved from Rochester, Earl and Sally spent time as snowbirds in a condo in Vero Beach, FL. Hurricane Jeanne devasted their property on the Florida East Coast, and, despite Earl's innate draw towards water, Earl amp Sally relocated to The Villages in 2004 as full-time residents. In The Villages, Earl continued to be an organizer who always brought his friends together. A neighborhood shuffleboard league was his first project. This was followed by a weekly afternoon men's golf group. Although unable to participate once he became ill, Earl continued to follow news of the group. Earl enjoyed playing bridge on a weekly basis with some friends...and relished his daily chess games with his three sons on his iPhone, two of whom he beat on a regular basis. Earl never retired from the corrugated container industry and was selling boxes for International Paper in Griffin, GA even at the time of his death. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Coletta Knott Thomas, and his two younger brothers, Don and Jim. Earl had a strong faith, a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to sing, especially Irish ballads. He was extremely proud of his children, their spouses, and grandchildren. Earl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sally, and their five children: Kathleen (Bill) Sever, John (Eula) Thomas, Michael Thomas (and Dina), David (Amy) Thomas, and Mary Jane (Jeff) Hess and his 13 grandchildren: Zachary (Christen), Joshua (Ashley), Matthew, Caroline, Emma, Sarah, Addison, Mia, Gabi, Bo, Tanner, Carson, Parker and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was a patient teacher, with a kind but firm hand, and more than one early student was delighted when they learned their own child would be in Mrs. Bridges' class. Margaret is survived by her best friend, life-long partner and loving husband of 59 years, Robert. Upon retiring, Bob and Peg traveled the country in a camper, finally returning to New England to settle quoton the hillquot in Wakefield, NH. They later relocated to Gilmanton, NH.

Peggy was a happy and joyful soul, a loyal friend, a good listener and counselor, with an abiding faith that all would turn out as it should. She was a loving and much-loved mother and grandmother. She was a selfless, nurturing woman with an unquenchable positive spirit that she willingly shared. She was a rock. She was a light. She was among God's finest work.

Ex-Sutherland boys coach Mueller dies
JEFF DIVERONICA
@ROCDEVO
For more than three decades, Paul W. Mueller coached talented kids in Pittsford in basketball, golf and tennis, and the big man nicknamed “Bear” did it with class and usually success. Mr. Mueller died on Sunday. He was 77. “Paul was a perfect gentleman, let me tell you,” said Irondequoit boys basketball coach Chris Cardon, 59, who recalled on Monday a game in the 1983-84 season. Cardon was at Eastridge then, just a young coach, and Mueller’s Pittsford Sutherland squad beat the Lancers in a high-scoring game that night. “They were just really talented,” Cardon said of Sutherland, which ended up winning the Section V Tournament, beating rival Pittsford Mendon, 64-62, in the title game. “They could have beaten us by 100 points if they wanted to. But Paul wouldn’t do that.” A former physical education teacher at Pittsford who was an Irondequoit native and a Franklin High graduate, Mr. Mueller was inducted into the Section V Basketball Hall of Fame last year. As a coach for Pittsford from 1967-96, his basketball teams won four Section V basketball championships and 376 games. In addition to sectional crowns in 1974, 1984, 1993 and 1995, his Pittsford Sutherland teams won six Monroe County league titles. Mr. Mueller also groomed two future Syracuse University stars in Marty Byrnes and Ryan Blackwell.Byrnes, who was on Pittsford’s 1974 title team, led the Orangemen in scoring as a senior (16.3 points per game) and was the 19th overall pick in the 1978 NBA Draft by Phoenix.
Upon his retirement in 1996, Mr. Mueller called Blackwell, a star for Sutherland’s 1993 and 1995 champions, “the finest player” he ever coached. Blackwell called him “warm” and “open-hearted” back then, “nice to everyone he meets.”
Blackwell, 41, has coached Liverpool High, near Syracuse, to consecutive Section III titles in his first two seasons. In his first, Mr. Mueller surprised him by coming to a game to watch. On Monday, Blackwell recalled how Mr. Mueller didn’t raise his voice a lot. At 6 feet 3, Mr. Mueller was a big man, but gentle. “I enjoyed playing for him. He was fun to play for. He was always calm and didn’t yell too much, probably similar to (Jim) Boeheim a little bit,” Blackwell said, likening Mr. Mueller to another of his former coaches and a fellow former Section V star at Lyons, Wayne County. “Coach Mueller was a good man.”
Cardon said people used to say Sutherland’s formerly tiny court was an edge for Mr. Mueller’s teams. But Cardon disagreed. “I thought at times it was a disadvantage because he had some really great, talented teams and on a bigger court they would have been harder to guard,” said Cardon.
Cardon’s team won its first state title last year, an occasion that Mr. Mueller celebrated by taking Cardon to breakfast last spring.
“It’s on me,” Mr. Mueller insisted.
He was a junior-high basketball coach for two years and junior-varsity coach for three more before taking over the varsity in 1967. A former captain of his college team at Ithaca, Mr. Mueller was also a golf and tennis coach in Pittsford.
His golf teams went 212-38-8 and won 12 league and three Monroe County crowns. In tennis, which he coached from 1962-69, his squads went 123-3-5, including a 100match win streak, and won four county titles. His boys soccer record was 22-5-7.
All totaled, Mr. Mueller’s teams won 27 league titles. Including his nonvarsity days, he coached 1,073 games.
Mr. Mueller is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; two grown children, Patty Mayer and Bill Mueller; a sister, Evelyn Anderson; two granddaughters, Margaret and Katherine Mayer; and in-laws, nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Paul Harris Funeral Home, 570 S. Kings Highway, Irondequoit. A memorial service in his honor will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Summerville Presbyterian Church, , 4845 St. Paul Blvd., Irondequoit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Summerville Presbyterian Church.
