Current Race: Mardi Gras 5K and Fun Run
The American Legion is a national and nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization (the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization).
It was founded as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness and continues to be "committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans."
The American Legion is dependent on dedicated volunteers and a supportive community to serve its full potential and, in return, offers programs that benefit that same community.
The Prairie du Rocher American Legion Hall has been the host of countless community events (such as La Fete de Noel and the Twelve Night Ball), wedding receptions, community fundraisers, and other social gatherings. The Prairie du Rocher American Legion continually supports the Prairie du Rocher community through the help of their members .
The Prairie du Rocher Sons of the American Legion are the sons of local veterans. As membership in the American Legion ages or dwindles, the Sons of the American Legion Host fundraisers that keep the Legion Hall maintained and functioning. Their fundraisers would normally include a meat raffle, queen of hearts drawings, cornhole tournament, etc. In 2020 and 2021, however, these fundraisers were greatly reduced or non-existent. These fundraisers are vital to the continuation of the service events and community involvement hosted by the American Legion. This is why this 5k and Fun Run was introduced. It is a new type of fundraiser for the group that we hope to continue for years to come, and your support is much appreciated.
