This Privacy Policy explains how the PDF Scanner mobile application ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles your information. By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.
Summary
PDF Scanner is designed to be privacy-first. All of your documents, scans, and settings are stored only on your device. We do not operate any servers, we do not have user accounts, and we do not collect, upload, sell, or share your personal documents or scans.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number.
- We do not upload your scanned documents, images, or PDFs to any server.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not require you to create an account or sign in.
- We do not sell or rent any personal information to third parties.
Information Stored on Your Device
The following data is created and stored locally on your device only, and is never transmitted to us:
- Scanned documents, images, and PDF files you create or import.
- Documents placed in the secure Vault, which are encrypted on your device using AES-256 encryption and protected by a PIN and/or biometric authentication.
- App settings and preferences (such as theme, scan quality, and default options).
Because this data is stored in the App's private storage, it is removed when you delete the App. Automatic cloud backup and device-to-device transfer of this data are disabled.
Device Permissions
The App requests the following permissions solely to provide its features:
- Camera — to scan documents and capture images. Camera images are processed on your device.
- Photos / Media / Storage — to let you import images and PDFs, and to save or export documents you create.
- Notifications — to send optional reminders. You can disable these at any time in your device settings.
- Biometric / Fingerprint — to lock the App and unlock the secure Vault. Biometric data never leaves your device and is handled entirely by your device's operating system; the App does not receive or store it.
- Internet — to display ads and process in-app purchases.
- Billing — to process optional in-app purchases through Google Play.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, which may process limited technical data (such as device information or IP address) according to their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob — to display advertisements. The App does not request your device's Advertising ID. Ads may still use limited, non-identifying technical data to function. Learn more at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Play Billing — to securely process optional in-app purchases and premium subscriptions. Payment information is handled by Google Play; we never see or store your payment details.
- Google Play Services — required for core app functionality and services above.
The App uses Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition (OCR). This processing happens entirely on your device, and the text of your documents is not sent to Google or to us.
In-App Purchases
The App offers optional premium features through in-app purchases. All transactions are handled by Google Play. Your purchase and subscription status is managed by Google Play and stored on your device.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- Vault documents are encrypted on your device using AES-256 authenticated encryption.
- Vault access is protected by a PIN (stored only as a salted, hashed value) and/or biometric authentication, with lockout after repeated failed attempts.
- The App does not transmit your documents off your device.
However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for keeping your device and its screen lock secure.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
