Privacy Policy
App Name: PDF Reader & QR Scanner
Package Name: com.cerkimot.pdfreader
Effective Date: 2026-07-16
This Privacy Policy explains how PDF Reader & QR Scanner (“the App”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) processes information when you use our mobile application. By using the App, you acknowledge and agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Scope of This Policy
This policy applies exclusively to the Android application PDF Reader & QR Scanner and related customer support communications. It does not apply to third-party websites, applications, platforms, or services that you may access through scanned QR codes, barcodes, links, or other content opened from the App.
2. Information We Process
We are committed to protecting your privacy. The App is designed to help you read PDF documents, convert images into PDF files, convert PDF pages into images, scan QR codes and barcodes, and organize local documents into folders.
To provide these features, the App may process local file information on your device, including file names, file paths, file sizes, file types, creation or modification dates, thumbnails, folder names, and the PDF documents or images you choose to open, convert, save, move, rename, share, or delete.
When you use the QR code or barcode scanner, the App may process camera images and detected scan results, such as website links, text, contact information, Wi-Fi information, product codes, phone numbers, email addresses, or other data contained in the scanned code. Scan results and scan history may be stored locally on your device so you can review them later.
The App may also process local preferences, such as language settings, onboarding status, permission status, display settings, reading history, recently opened documents, folder organization, and user interface states. These preferences are stored locally on your device to remember your settings and improve your experience.
If you contact us for support, we may process your email address and message content through our support mailbox solely to respond to your inquiry.
We do not require account registration, and we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal identity information.
3. Permissions and Why We Request Them
To provide the App’s core features, we may request certain device permissions.
Camera permission may be requested so the App can scan QR codes and barcodes using your device camera.
Photos, storage, or file access permissions may be requested so the App can locate and open PDF documents, select images for PDF creation, convert PDF pages into images, save generated files, organize documents into folders, and allow you to manage selected files.
Internet permission may be used for limited network-based actions, such as opening privacy policy pages, support links, app store pages, or third-party websites that you choose to open from a scanned QR code or barcode result.
You can revoke permissions at any time through your Android device settings. However, some features may not work properly if required permissions are disabled.
4. Local Processing
The App’s main document reading, file conversion, code scanning, and folder management features are designed to operate locally on your device.
PDF reading, image-to-PDF conversion, PDF-to-image conversion, QR code recognition, barcode recognition, scan history, recent document history, and folder organization are processed locally.
The App does not upload your personal PDF documents, images, QR code scan results, barcode scan results, or locally stored files to our servers for reading, conversion, scanning, or organization.
When you choose to open a website or external service from a scanned result, that action may be handled by your browser or another third-party application. The privacy practices of those third parties are governed by their own policies.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
Where applicable, our legal basis for processing information includes your consent when permissions are requested, the performance of the service to provide the document reading, file conversion, scanning, and file organization features you choose to use, and our legitimate interests in maintaining App functionality, improving user experience, preventing misuse, and handling support requests.
6. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share limited information only when necessary, such as when responding to your support request through our email provider, when required by law, regulation, legal process, or government request, or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of users, the App, or the public.
The App may allow you to share documents, images, text, or scan results through third-party applications installed on your device. Any information you choose to share is processed according to the privacy practices of the selected third-party application.
7. Data Retention
Local App preferences, scan history, recently opened document records, folder information, and related settings remain on your device until you delete them, clear the App’s data, or uninstall the App.
PDF documents, images, converted files, and other user-selected files remain stored in the locations you choose on your device until you move or delete them.
Camera frames used for QR code or barcode recognition are processed for scanning purposes and are not intentionally retained after recognition unless you separately choose to save an image.
Support emails are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request and maintain appropriate support records.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and administrative measures to help protect information processed by the App. The App is designed to process core document and scanning data locally whenever possible.
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
If support or technical operations involve service providers located in different countries or regions, information included in your support communications may be processed outside your country or region. Where required, we take appropriate steps to protect such information in accordance with applicable laws.
10. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, or the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
If you believe that a child has provided us with personal data through a support request or another communication, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
11. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data. You may also withdraw permission consent at any time through your device settings.
For documents, images, scan history, folders, recent file records, and preferences stored locally on your device, you can manage or delete them through the App, your device file manager, Android settings, or by uninstalling the App.
You may also contact us to request information regarding support communications you previously submitted.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how information is processed.
