PDF Reader Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 15, 2026
Welcome to PDF Reader (hereinafter referred to as the “App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
We value user privacy and the security of personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we may access, process, or collect when you use PDF Reader, how such information is used, and the rights available to you.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using the App. By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. About the App
PDF Reader is a PDF reading and file management tool. Its main features may include:
1. Opening, reading, and previewing PDF files;
2. Scanning paper documents and creating PDF files;
3. Converting images into PDF files;
4. Merging or splitting PDF files;
5. Encrypting or decrypting PDF files;
6. Renaming, sharing, or deleting local files;
7. Viewing recently opened files and file-processing records;
8. Using other PDF tools provided by the App.
Specific features may vary depending on the App version, device operating system, or region.
2. Information We May Process
3. Local Files and Documents
To provide PDF reading, editing, and file management features, the App may need to access PDF files, images, or other documents that you actively select.
Under normal circumstances, the files you select are read and processed only on your device. We do not actively upload your files, document contents, or scanned contents to our servers.
When you actively use system sharing, cloud storage, email, or other third-party features, the relevant files may be processed by the third-party application or service you select. The processing of data by third-party services is governed by their own privacy policies.
2. Camera Information
When you use document scanning or photo-taking features, the App may request access to your camera.
Camera permission is used only to photograph documents or images that you actively choose to scan. The App will not automatically activate the camera without your action, nor will it take photos or record videos in the background.
You may disable camera permission at any time through your device settings. However, after the permission is disabled, features such as document scanning may no longer function properly.
3. Photos and Media Files
When you use features such as converting images to PDF, importing images, saving files, or sharing files, the App may request permission to access photos, media, or files.
The App will access only the images or files that you actively select. Unless you provide authorization, the App will not access content unrelated to the features you use.
4. File and Storage Permissions
To open, save, import, export, rename, move, or delete files, the App may need to use file-access capabilities provided by the operating system.
On devices that support a system file picker, the App will generally access only the files or folders that you actively select. Certain versions of Android may require storage permission to read and save files.
5. Scanned Files and Recognition Results
When you use document scanning, image processing, or text recognition features, the App may process the images, scanned pages, or recognition results you select.
Such content is generally processed locally on your device. If a feature requires a third-party cloud-based recognition service, we will provide the necessary information before you use that feature and obtain authorization where required by applicable rules.
6. Device and Technical Information
To ensure the proper operation of the App, analyze errors, and improve the user experience, the App or third-party service providers may automatically collect the following technical information:
1. Device model, device brand, and operating system version;
2. App version, installation source, and language settings;
3. App launches, page visits, and feature usage;
4. Crash logs, error logs, and performance data;
5. Network type, IP address, and approximate regional information;
6. Device identifiers or App instance identifiers;
7. Advertising identifiers and information related to advertising display.
This information is generally used for App maintenance, troubleshooting, statistical analysis, fraud prevention, security protection, and advertising. It is not used to read the specific contents of your PDF files.
7. Contact and Feedback Information
When you contact us by email or through other methods, we may receive your email address, device information, issue description, screenshots, and other information that you voluntarily provide.
This information is used only to handle your inquiries, feedback, complaints, or technical support requests.
3. Purposes for Using Information
We may use relevant information for the following purposes:
1. Providing PDF reading, scanning, and file management features;
2. Opening, creating, converting, merging, splitting, encrypting, or decrypting files;
3. Saving your feature settings and usage preferences;
4. Fixing errors, analyzing crashes, and improving App stability;
5. Optimizing the interface, performance, and user experience;
6. Displaying advertisements and measuring advertising performance;
7. Preventing fraud, abuse, malicious attacks, or other security risks;
8. Responding to user feedback and providing technical support;
9. Complying with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements, or lawful procedures.
We do not sell the contents of your local PDF files to third parties, nor do we use the contents of your documents to create advertising profiles.
4. PDF Encryption and Decryption
When you use PDF encryption or password-setting features, the relevant passwords are generally used only to process files locally on your device.
Please keep your passwords secure. We generally cannot access, view, or recover your PDF passwords. If a password is lost, the relevant file may no longer be opened or decrypted.
When using the decryption feature, please ensure that you have lawful authorization to access the relevant file. Do not use the App to bypass unauthorized file-protection measures.
5. Advertising Services
The App may generate revenue by displaying advertisements.
To request and display advertisements, limit repeated advertisements, measure advertising performance, and prevent advertising fraud, third-party advertising service providers may collect or process the following information:
1. Advertising identifiers;
2. IP address and approximate location information;
3. Device model, system version, and language;
4. Advertisement impressions, clicks, and interaction records;
5. App usage and diagnostic information;
6. Information related to advertising attribution and fraud prevention.
Where required by applicable law or platform rules, we will obtain your authorization before using advertising identifiers, personalized advertising, or cross-app tracking.
If you decline personalized advertising or tracking authorization, you may still see non-personalized advertisements or advertisements based on the current content of the App.
Third-party advertising services will not obtain the specific contents of your local PDF files merely by providing advertising functions.
6. Third-Party Services
To provide App features, advertising, crash analysis, data analytics, or technical support, the App may integrate third-party software development kits, also known as third-party SDKs.
Third-party services may process device information, advertising identifiers, IP addresses, App usage information, crash logs, or other necessary data in accordance with their own privacy policies.
We recommend that you also review the privacy policies of the relevant third-party service providers. The third-party services actually integrated may vary depending on the App version and distribution platform.
The types of third-party services that the App may use include:
1. Advertising display and advertising analytics services;
2. App crash analysis services;
3. App usage analytics services;
4. Image processing, scanning, or text recognition services;
5. Basic services provided by application distribution platforms.
We make reasonable efforts to select third-party service providers that value privacy and data security. However, third-party service providers are responsible for their own data-processing practices.
7. Information Sharing and Disclosure
Except in the following circumstances, we will not actively sell, rent, or disclose your personal information to third parties:
1. When it is necessary to transmit required information to a service provider in order to provide a feature that you actively use;
2. When you actively choose to share a file with another application, contact, or service;
3. When necessary information is processed by a third-party SDK for advertising, crash analysis, or security purposes;
4. When disclosure is required by applicable laws and regulations, court orders, regulatory requirements, or other lawful procedures;
5. When necessary to protect the lawful rights, interests, and safety of users, developers, partners, or the public;
6. When relevant information is lawfully transferred in connection with a company merger, acquisition, asset transfer, or business restructuring;
7. When we have obtained your explicit authorization or consent.
We require cooperating service providers to process information only to the extent necessary to provide the relevant services.
8. Information Storage and Retention
Local PDF files, scanned files, images, and processing results are generally stored on your device.
You may delete relevant files through the deletion feature within the App or through your device’s file manager. Uninstalling the App may delete data stored in the App-specific directory, but files stored in public folders, the Downloads folder, the photo library, or other locations may not be automatically deleted when the App is uninstalled.
Device information, crash logs, advertising data, or analytics information may be retained by third-party service providers in accordance with their own privacy policies.
We retain relevant information only for a reasonable period necessary to achieve the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, fulfill legal obligations, resolve disputes, or protect security.
9. Information Security
We take reasonable technical and administrative measures to protect relevant information against unauthorized access, use, alteration, disclosure, damage, or loss.
However, please understand that no network transmission, electronic storage, or software system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You should properly protect your device, files, and passwords and avoid sharing sensitive documents through untrusted channels.
For files containing identity documents, financial information, medical information, contracts, or other sensitive content, please carefully confirm the recipient and processing method before using sharing, uploading, or third-party application-opening features.
10. Permission Management
You may view, grant, or revoke the App’s permissions through your device settings, including:
1. Camera permission;
2. Photo or media permission;
3. Notification permission;
4. Other system permissions related to specific features.
Refusing or revoking a permission will not affect basic features unrelated to that permission, but features that depend on the permission may not function properly.
11. Your Rights
Depending on the applicable laws of your country or region, you may have the following rights:
1. To understand how we process your information;
2. To access or obtain information relating to you;
3. To request correction of inaccurate information;
4. To request deletion of eligible information;
5. To withdraw previously granted authorization or consent;
6. To restrict or object to certain information-processing activities;
7. To reject personalized advertising or cross-app tracking;
8. To lodge a complaint with the relevant regulatory authority.
Because most PDF files and document data are stored only locally on your device, you may directly manage and delete such data through the App, your system file manager, or by uninstalling the App.
To exercise other data rights, you may contact us using the contact information provided at the end of this Policy.
12. Children’s Privacy
The App is not specifically designed for children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the age specified by applicable law. If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us without the consent of a parent or guardian, please contact us promptly.
After receiving such a request, we will take appropriate action following reasonable verification.
Parents and guardians should guide children to use features such as scanning, file importing, file sharing, and third-party links with caution.
13. Third-Party Links and External Applications
The App may connect to third-party applications or websites through the system sharing menu, file picker, application store, email, or other methods.
We cannot control the data-processing practices of third-party applications or websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party services. Before using a third-party service, please review its privacy policy and terms of service.
14. Updates to This Privacy Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy due to feature adjustments, changes to third-party services, updates to laws and regulations, or business needs.
The updated Privacy Policy will be published within the App, on the application store page, or on a relevant webpage, and the “Last Updated” date will be revised accordingly.
If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide notice through an in-App prompt, pop-up, or other appropriate method.
By continuing to use the updated App, you acknowledge that you have read the updated Privacy Policy.
